To be clear, Simms isnt saying Drake Maye is not GOING to be an elite quarterback, hes saying that he will need a year or two to polish up his rough edges in order to take advamtage of his huge upside. This is real-time self scouting after his Zach Wilson pick three years ago. Hes clearly seeing the value in NFL-readiness over pure raw talent. Even with pure raw talent, Maye is imo the 3rd quarterback upside-wise in the draft behind Caleb and Jayden

@@wasssuuuppp sure 6th place is wild but Simms says in his QB rankings pod that Maye is worthy of a 1st round pick or 2nd round pick. While in comparison, the other 5 quarterbacks he argues that they can play and contribute now, without having to be developed like Maye. Talent means nothing when you missing WIDE OPEN receivers. You throwing it into the 1st row of the stands on fades constantly. That has nothing to do with the talent you playing with but everything to do with you being very inaccurate. If you do research you would understand why he transferred. The whole program was in shambles, never mind his grandparents passed away. He transferred into a harder conference. But I guess that means nothing. He faced tougher defenses. However, much of what he says about Maye is corroborated by others like Kurt Warner, who isn't interested in creating hot takes. I do find it interesting that former NFL quarterbacks (with the exception of Tim Hasselbeck) generally seem to have a very different take on Maye than former NFL scouts/GMs. I think it goes to show what a crap shoot talent evaluation can be and how players, coaches and personnel-types all seem to value different attributes.

Thing is he is a junior high quarterback. I s-t you not. That kid has a way better arm than Drake Maye. But there are many high school QBs with better arms. Now Drake can throw a nice deep ball but he can’t drill the deep out and that is telling. When Drake throws to me it looks like his arm is moving in slow motion. It’s actually quite distracting and it makes me somewhat nauseous. But I’m not really sure why Drake is projected so high. He’s not fit to shine Jayden’s very big shoes. (Now Jayden has a really quick release and strong arm, and could take a squirrel out of a tree from 65 yards. So Jayden is “special” as Simms might say.)

The thing to be hesitant on is that he did have two ACL injuries to his same leg. That's very alarming. Usually that won't happen and I would feel better if it was on both feet, but if one gets retorn that's really something that I would caution and really think about how that affects his future. He had him first. Trevor Lawrence was his second QB. “I feel like I’m back watching almost a Patrick Mahomes again. That’s how I feel when I’m watching him. It’s Aaron Rodgers-ish…He’s got the best arm in the draft.” - Simms on Wilson “He’s (Wilson) clearly No. 1 for me. Clearly. And there is space between him and Trevor Lawrence.” - Simms on Ranking Zach Wilson over Trevor Lawrence

Such a dumb comment... there are plenty of examples of an int not being on the QB as much as an incompletion. Go look at the pick 6 Mahomes had in the Detroit game in week 1... he hit KT in stride right in the hands and KT dropped it, the ball popped in the air, and it was a pick 6. That's less on Mahomes than some incomplete passes where a QB completely misses his WR.

It's moronic to look back at past drafts and act shocked that QB A was taken before QB B and too many fans do that. We all can look like geniuses with hindsight. Also, these QBs aren't drafted into a vacuum - where they go matters. Will the team help them develop (remember Gace admitting he did nothing to develop Darnold)? Will the OC play to the QB's strengths, or try to shoehorn him into his "genius" offensive system? Does the team have good weapons around him? How is the OL? Is there a run game to help ease some of the pressure? Is the D any good, or will they need to score 30 a game to be competitive? Every draft pick has potential, but not every team is capable of helping them reach that potential.

Clearly, some member of the Maye family pissed in Simms' Wheaties. He only missed like 3 or 4 passes and the rest were on point. He also had the awareness to retry his missed passes, concentrate on his mechanics and throw it just fine. He threw more passes than QBs usually do and worked at a fast pace. Everyone knows Maye has great arm talent and left college in big time throws. But Simms criticizes him some passes having too much arc? Josh Allen had bad film and the same mechanical problems. Simms LOVED Josh Allen but HATES Drake Maye. The inconsistency is maddening.
