Recently discovered this choir of beautiful, youthful voices. This mixture would not have been possible before apartheid. Greetings from the USA...

Hi Angie I’m glad you appreciate the choir. I attended in the 80’s, and we were a mixed school, as we were private.

I have the most wonderful memories from when my brother was a Drakie in the 1980's... We always stayed in the caravan park and played in the mountains. Incredible school, incredible surroundings... magic!

Beautifully sung, such a pity the school cannot dig out the archives of the very first records made and get them professionally converted so All us old boys and those who remember 1969 to 1980 can enjoy. So much was achieved in those days that put the school on the map. Soloists like, Frikkie Swanepoel, Barry Coleman and a few others really planted the school trees for them to grow. The first overseas tours, the first films made so so sad they all in the files. I recall this song being sung by Frikkie when we were in Israel and won the first choir festival, Frikkie got ill and Barry Coleman had to take over and he too had a bit of a cold and we all waited in anticipation to see if he would hit that high note which he did splendidly and the crowd jumped to their feet. Oh those where the days.... bring them back please.

I had the pleasure of working with the choir many, many times over a period of about 10 years. What a joy. When Bunny took over as music director he began by changing the way the boys were trained. He consulted with John Bertalot about the design of the system and it worked superbly. Basically every new boy was trained in reading music fluently before they auditioned in front of the choristers who then voted on the ability of the new boy to see if he was ready to sing in the choir. After the death of Bunny I hope that his way of doing things has not changed. Those kids were a joy to work with.

I love the choir, but why leave out the second verse? They are not the only ones who do this, and to me it lessens the performance.
