Here in the UK I have a Montauk 150. My respect to both Jon K for a beautiful 230 Dauntless Whaler, to you for your excellent work and videos. My best refurbishment job so fsr has been to my boats black rub rail. Boston Whaler have yt vid on this, but it goes all by hand you mask of top and bottom of the rub rail then with several grit grades of paper stepping up from course 100,s up to the 1000’s. Just back and fourth it is a long job dusty bits everywhere. Then finish off with Acetone rubbed over the RR to just seal in the surface. Dress it with a nice matt finish or gloss trim or car wheel dressing and boom the look is amazing and with some hard work yet really, little in cost of materials. It is a great refresh to the look of your boat. Cheers

Dude... you're videos are taking my detailing to from a good detailer, to a grrrreat detailer. Definitely going to add the grios and flex to the arsenal! I'm a Marine tech by trade... but detailed for awhile when I first got into the field, and with a buddy with his own detailing business in Florida. So I'm atech first, detailer second... between consulting w/ my buddy and watching your videos, it's really helped me alot in just the few days of discovering your videos. I just started my own marine service & detail business last summer, so I've been getting back into buffing/ detailing again and i was having a problem with this boat i was buffing and saw one of your videos and it immediately helped me. I was working it too fast. Slowed it down & followed the side/side- up/down- side/ side method and BAM. Been watching/ listening to your videos all day today and learned a FUCK LOAD. from tools, products, pricing, quoting, what to look for and learning the wet sanding process. Just wanted to give you a shout out! And idk if you're the one doing the video editing or not...but it's phenomenal. Very engaging, good music and you do a kick ass job explaining everything. Now get your products back in stock so i can buy your shit!

Yes

I believe at one point you sanding/buffer over the vinyl? How do you get the little areas? Also do you ever buff the bottom of the boat?

Awesome job as always bro! Any tips for getting under the cleats without removing them? I'm thinking of a polishing attachment for a dremel but your advice would be great
@DrakesDetailing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That could work, or you can wedge your hand in there too. Whatever works for you!

How does the PowerLock your using differ from a ceramic. Do you prefer the lock?
@DrakesDetailing Жыл бұрын
No I prefer ceramic! Ceramic in my opinion is easier to apply and last longer

Can I use a Mirka roto-orbital sander for wet sanding? What tool do you use?

I can't thank you enough for this informative video! I am a boat owner and followed this step by step with all of the products in the link and my boat looks brand new. I am ready to tackle my other boat now. Will this be the same process for a navy blue hull? Thanks again!
@DrakesDetailing3 жыл бұрын
yes, if you sand go up to 2000 grit though, everything else is the same
@sheafferwatt82523 жыл бұрын
I am guessing 2000 grit for a black hull as well drake?

Thanks for making these videos. Can I use a Milwaukee 5" Random Orbit Palm Sander?
@DrakesDetailing6 ай бұрын
Hey! No, the sander is not strong enough, and it’s the wrong action.

I have 15mm Throw DA, a 8mm Throw DA, and mini DA. Will those be enough to get rid of marring from Wetsanding with the right pad? I need to wed sand our haul in places for the first time, and pretty scared of screwing it up.
@DrakesDetailing4 жыл бұрын
I personally would not use a da to try to remove sanding marks, It can be done but it will take about double the time and skill. If you don’t want to buy an expensive rotary, go get a cheaper one from harbor freight for like $60 that will do the job just fine. You’ll need a wool pad as well.

wow nice work and great description of the products and their uses, Not that it really matters, but the pattern you are using i have hear it being referred to as basket weave or checker board, basically you work is similar to car paint correction, just its more aggressive but now that i have a boat i am going to use your videos as my research, thanks so much for sharing your process, regards, PS can you get anything from clay barring a boat? Mac
@DrakesDetailing Жыл бұрын
You got it! Thanks for the kind words. In my opinion, clay baring a boat is pointless. It doesn’t really work

Great video thanks for sharing! I have the same exact buffer/polisher. Mine is a 6 inch but yours looks bigger than that. Are you using oversized pads our is the camera just making them look bigger? Thanks Friend!!.. I see now that you are using bigger pads at times. Thanks again!!..

Funny, just checked out where you were. My hood. Even if you like to do things yourself it's still a good idea to get a professional to do an initial job.

Do you need to have a forced rotation DA polisher to finish with the Grey Lake Country force foam pad with Menzerna 400, or will any DA polisher work?
@DrakesDetailing4 жыл бұрын
Any da will work, I just really like the force rotation, has more power

Drake, thanks for another great video. Drake, I feel a bit vulnerable around boat graphics and decals, especially those that have custom printed (as opposed to lettering). I’m aware that vinyldecals differ in their composition, but do you have any general advice about polishing (and maybe sanding) around these basting things? Pleased help. Gratitude!

I am purchasing a 1999 Key West Boat 2220 CC. The in and out needs restoration. Do I need to wet sand or can I do a good wash and then go into the Starke R and then the Starke Medium? or the Menzerna? or the Presta Gel Coat compound? So many products, not sure the best order of product to use with having to restore. Also, what is the best way to remove old decals and if I am going to replace decals when is the best time to apply back on the boat? is it after the compound? Trying to be on a budget. What should be done with the bottom up to the waterline?
