Strycova has a legitimate gripe with Venus. It's not about rather the calls were right or wrong. It's the time Venus is taking before she challenges. She sees her ball is going out, and then decides to challenge. A challenge has to be immediate, which is what umpires tell players before every match. Eva Asderaki, the umpire, should know this, and I've seen her numerous times tell players they've waited too long to challenge and the call stands.
@lars6537 жыл бұрын
Strycova is right twice there, in the two last situations Venus challenged too late, she already hit the ball, saw it went out and then challenged, that is not allowed. A challenge that shouldn't have been allowed isn't justified when the challenger is on the right end because that is what you are suggesting. When you want to challenge you have to do it instantly.

If a linesman calls a very close ball in when it's just out, that's not a bad call. If he calls it out when it's just barely in, that IS a bad call, because you are suppose to give the benefit of the doubt to the player who hit the ball. So all of these calls were bad calls, since each was an IN ball called OUT. Remember, there were no electronic calls until 2005, so bad calls happened all the time, and intimidating linesmen was part of the game.

About Barbora-Venus incident, despite the text commentary written against Barbora, it must be said that she is in the right. The ultimate truth of whether the ball is in or out is irrelevant - because if you don't challenge it you will never know. The timing of the challenge is important. Venus in the 2nd challenge did it after she hit the ball and was called out. So the ball continued to be in play. She should stop the point right there if she has a dispute and ask for a challenge. So if the ball is out, she will get the point, if it is in, the point will be replayed or whatever will be the umpire's. So Barbora has every right to be upset at the series of late challenges by Williams and actually the umpire should reject those challenges. Not sure why they were accepted.

@stephenvalentinemusi6 жыл бұрын
The first challenge, Venus got the attention of the umpire. She was in conversation with the umpire. She's within her right to challenge there. Players have been doing that since the system was introduced. The second point, the point is stopped because Venus hit the ball out. So she could challenge there, because the point has been stopped. No other shot was played. Had Barbora hit another shot and Venus hit that one back, she would not be able to challenge. On the third one, Venus was looking at the mark once she returned the ball and, again, the point was dead. No other shot was played. She's allowed to challenge. People look at the marks on the court before challenging all the time. AND Venus interrupted the score being called, meaning that Asderaki wasn't paying attention either and Venus had to get her to look in her direction. Why should she be denied a challenge if the umpire was looking the other way?
@DexterHaven6 жыл бұрын
Nope, best to play the point in case it was in, silly. If you miss the opportunity to hit it, how can you get it back?

Those challenges are hella late tho by Venus
@steve-hm1wn7 жыл бұрын
I think because she doesn't usually like to challenge, that she does hesitate a little instead of challenging right away
@dookwan785 жыл бұрын
Because she's a cheater
@Brandon512k5 жыл бұрын
Okay those balls were clearly out though. Venus sees that the ball was clearly out and is confused as to why no lines person called the ball out. At the end of the day the ball is STILL out.

For me seeing people lose their cool is the funniest thing in the world. Me i never let people see me angry, my blood pressure means more to me.

I didn't know that Caroline complains a lot on line calls.

And really sorry about Cornet :-( she was correct three times! against stupid sytem. But even super stupid system is always more powerful than the smartest person.

Wow...all these challenges were correct by Venus...makes me wonder what were the line people doing?
@ronaldtaylor75655 жыл бұрын
OMG! Poor Cornet. No challenges remaining and paid the price. She was robbed horribly

Moral of the story: Find officials who make the right calls. If they can be wrong anytime and they have the Hawkeye, there should be unlimited challenges.

azarenka/wozniacki match, that ball was clearly out, it was no where near the line

for some reason tennis is a sport where you can get angry easily.i totally understand the likes of macenroe

Cornet should have used her challenges more wisely!
@seunosewa5 жыл бұрын
She used them wisely but there were so many bad calls.

the first thing when you write alize cornet is "Drama" xD also you always see Caroline Wozniacki dancing and doing funny stuff but in Reality she was really hard to deal with when she thought she was right

Question is: why are they getting the calls wrong? Not to mention consistently. Do they do anything towards the empires or linesmen as in liability statistics or less jobs due to lack of credibility?
@matt89787 жыл бұрын
As an international official yes I can tell you they do. The better job you do the more high profile matches you get selected for

Empires?

i think the biggest bottleneck of tennis is the umpire occasionally tend to call it out when it isn't.
@JnoPrds7 жыл бұрын
Moral of the story is not don't waste challenge, it is get rid of line judges. They are redundant. Any ball that bounces within 1cm of the line should be auto-called with hawkeye making a beep if out.

Strycova is right. Those captions are biased. You can’t challenge the opponent’s shot after you’ve already missed.
@DBTitans5 жыл бұрын
Such shit sportsmanship from Wozniacki. Cries over calls that don't go her way but then has the audacity to lie about a serve that was blatantly out.
@aninna63356 жыл бұрын
Can someone please explain what this challenge is? I don’t get it? Is the empire supposed to say out before the ball hits the ground or what exactly are the players getting mad?
@iamshadowbanned6996 жыл бұрын
You have to challenge a dubious call immediately - you don't have the luxury of, "oh, let me think about this one for a minute." But it is the call of the umpire if he/she will allow a player to challenge after waiting for some time.
@Balfour.5 жыл бұрын
A small tip: when you don't have the review, just watch the damn replay on TV and then tell the call to the umpire.
@Alfredul037 жыл бұрын
That's why the judges who are behind the players, should no longer be there, because if there is a hawk's eye, they should no longer be there, in fact they get in the way, make the player impossible and the worst is wrong with his vision. They must come out and never exist.
@Jejdjejbfjf5 жыл бұрын
Umpires and linesmen need to take more responsibility for bad calls. Even if players have no more challenges or if the hawkeye can't work, if the audience is able to see it through replay, these umpires and linesmen need to take responsibility.

Strycova wasn’t “bitching”, she was challenging the umpire. Two of Venus’s challenges were very late
