@@woetmann1 Get what you're saying, but why then did Jumbo let him win the stage. If he is there to support Primoz or Jonas then was this stage about giving Jumbo another card to play. Was it to make the most of Remco having a bad day and give them him three riders to mark? Fair enough, when you have a team as stacked as Jumbo then why not. So many options.

It's going to be very complicated for Remco to win this Vuelta, but finishing on the podium remains possible. But one thing was somehow comforting : he finished the climb with a stronger pace, closing a bit the gap with Roglic. It means he knows his limits very well. He could have tried to answer To Roglic's attack and burn himself instead. Wise management of the final climb I'd say
@Sportsloverandrew

I'm not his biggest fan by any means. But what he did today was wise. That's how you always stay near the top with a shot to win. Look at Jonas and Roglic. @@veganpotterthevegan sure, but I do not think you could say they were both prodigies that were nurtured through an academy system? They were both wild cards in a way, who came to the sport late, demonstrating rare talent. Granted, Denmark is not an uncommon source, but Jonas was not a Danish cycling super kid.

@BlueMoonday19 Jumbo has a big budget. A lot of this was luck. They've signed many riders that didn't become anything and never got suited up for GTs. Is it just me or does it seem like there's been a lot more crashes since disc brakes were introduced? In the bad old days campy brakes were designed for fine control rather than brute force, and though non racers would laugh at that notion, they did make it easy to stay 6 inches off the wheel in front of you even on a tricky course.

The waffle eating Belgian Merckx is better than anything you will ever produce. Case closed. And Evenepoel is so bad he's already world champ TT and road at 23 😂😂😂😂

@@sirajosman5913 although I don't think Remco can beat Jonas or even Primos, he is still ahead in the classification and lost only 30 sec, finishing the climb stronger than them. There are still plenty of stages, and a time trial. It's maybe too soon to be that affirmative

I have no idea why Remco is persistently trumpeted as one of key GC candidates in 3 week races. He clearly doesn't have the right predispositions, he is a rider for classics and monuments

Remco won the vuelta last year, so it makes sense, that he is one of the candidates to win this year.

@@karl8805 Roglic, López, Nibali, Landa, Hindley, Pinot, Carapaz, Geoghegan Hart, Rodríguez, Mas, Yates, Ayuso, Almeida... Seems like a lot of guys showed up despite "noone showed up"... The Vuelta is not a 2.2 race. There'll never be one where no good rider shows up and somebody wins by default.

STUPID from sepp to do high fives, one of the spectators could have covid ! annyway a nice victory of sepp ! Remco played it verry smart , he didnt forced himself . He showed 2 days ago how good he is . In the Vuelta of 2023 he did the same and everyboddy was telling " remco cant ride a whole grand tour on a big level " and they where all wrong because he won that vuelta ;-) . So lets all hope Remco can hold up this level, ottherwise its gonna be a boring vuelta if Jumwo controlls and wins it all . All ther rest of the teams can fight for the thirth place in this vuelta....

Great job Sepp!! But pompous old Carlton Kirby is back to his tiresome rambling fluff without telling us much about the key dynamics of the race.
