In WotLK, I was in a guild that did loot counsel. When my friend and I got in, it was somewhat corrupt, with officers and the girls that flirted with them getting preference over others. It didn't take long for my friend and I to make officer in the guild (it was very common for us to join a guild and quickly climb the ranks), and we got the loot counsel straightened out. We made sure gear was prioritized based on class and spec (i.e. if 2 people wanted the same gear, and it was better optimized for one class, it went to that class first), participation, skill, and dedication to the guild. During the push for ICC25, we realized we just didn't have enough competent players for Lich King or for some of the heroics, so we merged with a guild that was already pushing ICC 10H, but didn't have the roster for 25s. Our guild master was adamant that we do loot counsel, as it was part of our identity as our loot system. However, the guys from the old guild wanted to do a system where if multiple people want a piece of loot, the person who has least recently gotten loot would be the recipient. I'm not going to argue about the value of different loot systems (in general, it's not the specific system, but how it's implemented and whether the officers are fair that makes it a good or bad system). Some of you may recognize the loot system I mentioned above as being Drunken Suicide Kings, where everyone gets assigned a spot in line, and when you get loot you go to the back of the line. DSK is a quick and easy system to use. There's addons and applications that track who's in what spot, and it's a lot easier than keeping track of how much DKP you have. Well, our GM refused to use DSK. "We do loot counsel" was her only explanation. It didn't matter to her that our "loot counsel" was a 10 minute discussion on who got loot last, and nothing else. What could have been done in seconds after every kill took us minutes, as the officers from the other guild we merged with would check their list for who had gotten what most recently. It didn't matter how often they raided, how long they had been in the guild, how good they were, or even whether the gear was good for their class or not. That GM had a lot of oddities, but this was one of them. She was so stubborn that we not do DSK that we wasted about 5-10 minutes in "loot counsel" to manually do DSK every kill.

i learn my class through leveling in PvP. cause low level dungeons sucks and everything is 1 shoted . then i relearn the class in pve. so far i haven't had any problems in being ready for heroic and mythic raiding on my toons learning my classes that way.

And here I was thinking that I got involved in a lot of drama... Story time! If any of you dislike reading extremely long, rant filled stories, avoid the crap below this. >.< When I made my first character on WrA, I wanted to find a guild that did a little bit of everything. Lo and behold I get a guild invite to such a guild. I'm calling it "Derpmasters 2000" to avoid complications. Anyway, so I join the guild, hopeful that it'll be a fun experience (I must be an idiot..). Shortly after joining, the guild master asked me if I was interested in running low level dungeons with one of his alts, and another guildie. Of course I said; "Yes.", and It was smooth sailing for 2-3 dungeons. Inside Wailing Caverns is where the drama began. A guildie and a pug rolled need on an item, and the pug won the roll. Everyone continued on, but the GM immediately started typing in caps, saying that the pug 'stole' the item. The guildie said that they were fine with it and wanted to finish the dungeon. The GM was *not* having it. Ignoring the guild member, he continued arguing. The pug and I then both said that they'd won the item fairly, to which the GM started snapping at me for 'defending a thief', etc. Eventually we managed to finish the dungeon, but the GM wasn't very happy with me. He thought that I wasn't being 'faithful' to the guild (Starting to sound familiar?). Needless to say, I got miffed and decided to leave the guild. Instead of an explanation, I simply left. I got a few whispers asking why I'd left from the people I'd gotten along. So I explained what happened and left it at that. A couple of weeks after I saw the guild recruiting in trade chat and decided to check the roster. Most of the people that I'd told what'd happened wound up leaving the guild. None of us talked outside of the guild, and I've never talked to any of them again. I know I probably made it worse by sticking up for someone over an item that would most likely be replaced within the next dungeon they did (If they did another), but it felt absolutely ridiculous that they'd be accused of being a thief for it. ._.;
