I read all the fancy comments and it seems like no one really understands maritime warfare. Few considerations: 1) The British frigate was probably already being targeted by anti-ship missiles on the Iranian shore which were already locked on the target 2) The British frigate was operating in waters patrolled by Iranian submarines, so the "patrol boat" was far away from being alone there. 3) Who was alone and without support was the frigate itself, any action would have resulted in total annihilation 4) In maritime warfare size is not important. Look at what happened in WWII with the Italian Royal Navy in Alexandra, Egypt in 1941 5) For everyone making fun of their English, try to learn Farsi, and let's see what you can do **6) The Stena Impero, legally or illegally, was eventually seized so the effectiveness of the British communication was null ** I strongly suggest you watch these two videos: Iranian Underground cruise anti-ship missile base in Persian gulf shore: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5nHmKuPZpiskMk Footage of one of the recent Iranian military drills: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ27dquuhKppeKc

Any ships in Persian Gulf and vicinity is setting duck for powerful Iranian precision missiles. That was only continuation of their 5000 years of survival as a nation. No country in the world can handle hardship more than Iran. On the other hand Brits have been around for only a few hundred years and if it wasn't for the English Channel, they would be speaking German today. So, war would be hell of a lot harder on the cupcakes Brits than the longest continuous nation on earth, Iran AKA Persia.

Look at what happened in WWII with the Italian Royal Navy in Alexandra, Egypt in 1941 5) For everyone making fun of their English, try to learn Farsi, and let's see what you can do 6) The Stena Impero, legally or illegally, was eventually seized so the effectiveness of the British communication was null

@@monarasouli9889 1) Against a duke class frigate that has numerous defensive systems against missile attacks and a declaration of war against Britain 2) Of which they have 4 with all being fairly outdated and needing modernisation with a warship that has anti submarine armaments in addition to having anti submarine equipped aircraft and hms duncan potentially there to support depending on various factors. 3) Very likely if they wanted to but it would cost them a fair bit to do so and would be a clear act of aggression as Britain was following international law with iran being the aggressor 4) No argument there but it does help and the UK has quite a few allies, even just sanctions would cripple them, wouldnt even need a war. 5) The agreed communication for both naval and aircraft movements is in English which is why even with foreign to foreign vessels it is still spoken in English as you will often have an English speaker on board for this purpose, this is only usually deviated from with non international vessels and is usually unprofessional. 6) Not at all, the point of the frigate was to ascertain the situation, rely it and document it which was later used to prove that they were aware that they broke international law hence Britain was allowed to sanction Iran without reprisal from other nations as they had full contact and documented proof of the events that transpired. As you can likely agree, war and conflicts are often won by the events happening behind the stage rather than just what's on it. Either way the warship was over 60 minutes away from any ability to effectively defend the cargo vessel (the antiship missiles etc) and was ordered not to, it was a tit for tat move that was better handled diplomatically, one cargo ship isn't worth engaging over.

@@LunaStarFire how many missiles can it take out at the same time before one of it's sunk thought? And how many missiles have they taken out in actual combat and not a simulation and training scenario? Iran has 34 attack subs all operating in the Persian Gulf they can take out more than just a fleet. Keep underestimating the enemy and you'll repeat Vietnam and Afghanistan over and over again.
@LunaStarFire3 жыл бұрын
@@thetaggman5311 no as i mentioned they have 3-4 (ones a coastal sub) effective submarines, they do have 24 midget submarines which are basically useless as they have to operate with support vessels due to their small size and have a miniscule submersion time, have a 2 round payload, using non modernised torpedos with minimal payload and sporting missiles that have had a horrible track record in lab testing let alone combat As far as Afghanistan and Vietnam while a wasted effort they weren't losses militarily, Vietnam was just expensive and a provocative war that no one really wanted to fight but it allowed the US and the UK to dump almost all of its dangerous chemicals onto them. Afghan well was effective we got access to oil, helped root out a lot of warlords too.
@thetaggman53113 жыл бұрын
@Brad Williams there's nothing left to sanction. After Soleimanis illegal assassination a US military base was LEGALLY attacked. The "international community" has been trying to cripple Iran for 40+ years now, all it did was make it self sufficient. You really do over estimate the coalition that couldn't take the Taliban out.

Its clear that Iran is new to all this and is still learning. I wouldnt judge them too harshly. China however has had many years to widen its understanding of international law. If countries dont obey international law and unlawfully force others from international waters, I dont see the US having any other choice but to keep carriers around like they usually do. No one likes the US's policing but I guess its a nessecary evil. Or else small fries like Iran start interfering.

Look at what happened in WWII with the Italian Royal Navy in Alexandra, Egypt in 1941 5) For everyone making fun of their English, try to learn Farsi, and let's see what you can do 6) The Stena Impero, legally or illegally, was eventually seized so the effectiveness of the British communication was null I strongly suggest you watch these two videos: Iranian Underground cruise anti-ship missile base in Persian gulf shore: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g5nHmKuPZpiskMk Footage of one of the recent Iranian military drills: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ27dquuhKppeKc

@@monarasouli9889 lol, now let’s consider this for a second. Iran launches missiles at a British Frigate in the IRTC. Alright, we blew up a warship for no good reason, what did Iran obtain from such a dumb action? It’s not even a very valuable warship in the grand scheme of things. How long do you think Iran will last against the international firestorm that entails. So consider it. Nothing, Iran would gain absolutely nothing from blowing up a worthless Frigate. Guess what, now Iran is going to war with the world.
