Actually, that’s not true: cannibalism is illegal in the megacities. Recycling means to be harvested for organs and others, but NOT for food. Essentially it was a great film, it still stands up well even today. The costume design was brilliant, casting was pretty damned good and enjoyable (Armande Assante played an excellent villain, and I love a good villain) The film does not deserve the flack it gets, die hard Dredd fans will rip it but even though I read the comics growing up (I'm still wishing for a dredd vs death film) this ticked a lot of boxes for me. If they'd followed comic lore, Fargo would have been sent out in his (impractical) Chief Justice uniform, and his lawgiver, and that's it. While accurate, to those who don't know what the Long Walk is, it'll look like they sent the poor old man out of the city with a loaded gun so that he could blow his brains out the minute they closed the gates. A trenchcoat, a shotgun, a law book, and presumably his badge tucked away somewhere for identification, implies some sort of survivability and continuation of his narrative.

I think they looked away as they didn't want to see the walk that was to come for them once they retire -- also, the officers not in Judge uniforms nearest the door looked away as a sign of respect, not to see the walk for them as well and probably a gesture (selfish and out of pity) so that their faces wouldn't be the last face the person taking the walk would see (literally a death sentence).

@@waitcoffeefirst915 yeah I agree the second set of people without the helmets clearly look away as he exits.
