Thanks so much for this valuable video. While MRIs can be very valuable, it's so important not to overemphasize it. Besides all the things you mentioned I often talk to patients who tend towards catastrophizing as soon as someone showed them the things on a MRI. It's hard to work against the convictions of "I'm really and profoundly sick and only surgery can help." that results of these pictures. So thanks for shedding the right light on it! 🙂

Wow, this is great Dr. This explains exactly why pain is not directly related to injury.

By chance, I saw the very first MRI machine recently in Aberdeen, Scotland where it was invented. It’s now a museum piece in the local hospital.

What is the best way to get a proper diagnosis? I've have lumbar surgery?, epidural, facet injections, done physical therapy, been on disability, tried all kinds of different massages, exercises, diets, and my lower back pain is still affecting me on daily basis. 😢

Hello. The videos in this channel helps a lot and they are very informative, especially the video interviewing the lady who has fibromyalgia. I'd like to ask a few questions. Is Dr Andrea Furlan an MD doctor and where does she practice? If nosiplastic pain does not need MRI, does it need to have any other test to diagnose it? Do you have videos on pain related to strong positive DFS70 test result? Thank you.

Are you a patient living in Ontario, Canada? If you are, then please ask your doctor to send me a referral. I work at the Toronto Academic Pain Medicine Institute (TAPMI). If you are not in Ontario, then you have to talk to your own doctor about your health issues.

Talk about TMS, would be appropriate in this case

MRI revealed several issues with lumbar spine , specifically L4, L5 and sacrum. Disc bulge, spinal stenosis , slight scoliosis leftward. Needless to say, the Dr. Has refered me to a pain specialist, which in turn refered me to a neurosurgeon . (Have not gone, yet). Been dealing with this for 14 years since a fall , lengthy story. Due to my Dr. at the time (a nurse practitioner) telling me to basically suck it up, it's no different that she riding her horse on a daily basis? I felt uncared about , and have suffered in silence alone . Until last year while working part time cause standing on concrete all day was excruciating. The pain became so intense I sought another PCP. Who listened and followed up with another MRI to see how much more worse it had gotten. Well now according to him( left the practice) I could end up with cauda equine syndrome. Picture painted was not pretty. And so it goes... Stuck in pain, praying to God through Jesus to help me heal with our going under the scalpel.

I had several mris and they said nothing was wrong with my lumbar back after falling down the stairs and being in true agony I was put on Fentanyl and I was dragging one leg around. But good news nothing found!! Then the surgeons I met said the mris were useless. Done at too high a frequency over insufficient area. Basically to save money many companies/hospitals are doing just basic cheaper scan settings.

I had a MRI of my back. 2018 and you know what was discovered? I had a tumor. Needed surgery to remove it but I have more pain now than before.
