Although I have been a professional logger for the past 46 years. I have cut thousands of trees in various conditions, mostly Great Lakes hardwoods, Oaks, ash, maple, etc. I have never had the opportunity to cut the big "Evergreen Trees", and work in the mountainous terrain as U have in the Pacific Northwest. That work U do is just awsum!

"This tree is gonna hit that log, which will then hit this log....so I gotta get thru there and on the other side of that, to hide!" Critical stuff to think thru on each tree, and I appreciate you spelling it out! Love the yellow cedar, it doesn't grow here on Kodiak, but a fair amount washes in as driftwood....one of my favorites to burn and/or carve! Cheers for another great video...work safe!

Haha so you want another chopper loading video? 😂 Ya maple and oak can have massive burls too but that’s common to find burls on them. It’s the birds eye burls that are rare.

Wow how beautiful buddy ! Oh you know how it's fairly common place to find "burls" on ponderosa....here we can get as much for a 5' across burl as a whole logging truck of prime lumber pine ! No Kidding either. Just think living in a place like that where no matter what (except the occasional Air Force Jet that might pass overhead) you only hear the sound of the Mountains.....that's where the Wife and I bought land and built our Log Home....

That’s fantastic you guys are lucky. I’d love to build a cabin in a remote area. Peaceful and quiet. Ya that yellow cedar burl would go for a lot of money just gotta find the right buyer. Might be worth while to charter a chopper to fly it to the water if there are several in the area

Hello Bjarne. I have been watching your videos for a long time, I admire your professionalism. I'm surprised you left your saw in the woods overnight in this weather. Are you not afraid that something will happen to her on a frosty night, under the snow? Will the weather in the coming days allow you to work or at least pick up a saw, or can it be cold for several days and the weather will not allow you to fly in, will the cold damage the saw these days?
@BjarneButler2 жыл бұрын
Cold does not affect the saw. I’ve left a saw in a hillside for 2 months in winter and it fired right up no problem. Just don’t get water in the carburetor or you’ll have to take it apart to dry it out. I was not planning on coming back to that camp after this shift so I didn’t want my saw stuck in camp when I would be working elsewhere

Nothing definitive. Seen some odd things over the years like old foot prints in a dried up swamp puddle in middle of nowhere and it wasn’t likely an animal print. Had a coworker years ago who had rocks rolling through his quarter on a heli job. Not unusual really but they were still covered in moss. Rocks just don’t sit there for decades growing moss then randomly start rolling down a hill. So ya seen a few other weird things but ya never know
