@@ellespoonies Chiming in to say that I agree but at least the movie Alien shows how rape can happen to anyone of any gender and how it's a scary/uncomfortable act of violence and nothing else. Unfortunately, the movie removes all of the nuance by utilizing a monster for reproduction purposes (great for showing one of the reasons we need legal abortions but on the other hand we get led down the rabbit hole of this species trying to survive), and of course adding in the sequels makes it even more sticky with a female hive leader but it's definitely horrifying, which was the goal. Not a monster I'd ever f*ck and I'm a monsterf*cker. I think I've seen a bit of Geiger's other art but I don't go looking for it either. TL;DR Alien is a good movie but you're not wrong.

For the record, what Jacob is referring to with the Alien design is something a lot of film critics have written about at length. A good deal of the imagery in the original Alien movie functions as symbolizing the threat of rape and unwanted impregnation. The way the facehugger "impregnates" a host by shoving its proboscis down their throat and then keeps them alive to force gestation, the fact that the first victim to suffer this is a man, even the way the android tries to kill Ripely by shoving a rolled-up magazine down her throat. Looking at the alien's physical design, it has a mouth that extends from its mouth in a sort of phallic way and uses this to punch a hole in its victims' heads. Then you add in that it lays eggs and reproduces, it's a whole can of flipped gender dynamics and icky rapeyness in there.

Phalluses were used ostensibly as protection and vitality imagery and obelisks aren't the most functional pieces of architecture. Also considering how obsessed some man can be about their own parts I don't think is that far fetched to think they'd erect things inspired by it. But nowadays the biggest connection to me is the neverending competition to have the tallest building in the world.

Adding to what's been established regarding the Xenomorph design, none of the women on the ship were used as hosts for the Xenomorph eggs, only the men. This was done to increase discomfort in a primarily male audience with the concept of male impregnation, something both impossible and unnatural on an even subconscious level, heightening the level of anxiety for the expectedly male viewer. It's like the opposite of seeing a guy getting hit in the nads and feeling sympathy pain. You can't empathize with what they're going through, creating a disconnect between the situation they're in while also trying to identify with them.
