So the cube is in perspective but the ellipse is not in perspective

The ellipse is affected by perspective in terms of elevation. If it lies close to the horizon line it will be narrow, but if it travels further above or below the horizon line it will open up more. The minor and major axes of the ellipse are not affected by the perspective, they cut through the exact centre of it at perpendicular angles
