This is the video you need to see, to actually change the proportion in drawing. Most helpful one so far.

thanks Geranium. Visit accurasee and you can order the divider there. Unfortunately, the Measurement System is being updated and won't be ready for a while.

There is along fork shaped pin that slides across to keep the orange pin in place. Just slide it up or down to remove it then you can adjust it according to the proportion you need, Hope this helps!

Absolutely not. Artists use all kinds of transfer methods. Pencil measurement is never considered cheating, but it's another tool. I've given an in depth explanation here, but usually I only check a few points. The fact is you can use this as much or as little as you want. Good luck!

Accurasee Art Products how to get the red pin out..there's no instructions at all written on the paper provided addressing this, nor on your site...and not one video. I've read the reviews on Amazon that's where I bought mine..and it doesn't work. Please advise. Thanks

I believe there are people who can draw acurately just by their eye and they are amazing, but i also believe there are people, who are not able to do that like them. Those people are more like the need a little help with those instruments. Both the ways goes to the pyramid top. All is possible. Just make art and make people happy.

Can this technique be used on a larger scale than what you are using now?

So basically this is a tool for artist that need help scaling up, and in this case copying a subject at a different scale. Wouldn't work in the real world which is why you see artist in nature or on the street holding up there brush to the subject to scale it down. Hard to imagine Michael Angelo painting some of he extra large painting when you think of how difficult scaling is, especially when you get into vanishing point.

If you could draw a straight line, you would be called an architect instead of an artist. :)

Can you tell me why this technique is actually necessary? If you’re a proper artist you don’t need this device. What’s wrong with your own proportional divider.....your eyes ! The danger with using photographs is the distortion that lenses tend to make, especially long focus lenses. Extreme wide angle lenses are the worst. It’s a dead give away for experienced onlookers when they see a painting that’s been directly copied from a photo. It looks false and faked. That’s because the eye sees differently from a camera lens. I suggest if you must copy from a photo make sure the photo has been taken with either a 40mm lens or 50 mm. These lenses are closest to what the human eye sees. Better still, draw from life.....it’s much more honest. Take drawing lessons to learn about how to get proportions correctly and like this artist says, negative space is probably the most helpful clue to use in drawing.
