Hi Jason, Thank you so much for another outstanding video. I learned so much from this one. Can't wait to watch the long version. Now a question RE: reflected color and the background...What if you decided to do the background in the sienna shades that are in the dogs fur rather than the green values. Would you adjust the reflected color accordingly or not? Or would you use the green in the coat and add suble touchs of the green to the background or no? I find backgrounds to be the biggest challenge to portraits. Thanks again!

Awesome video. How do you get your pencil so sharp?

Hi Jason. I am looking over your patreon site. I pulled up one of your free ones for an example in pastels and was wondering in each lesson do you beforehand tell all the colors and supplies that are needed. Didn't see that on the seal. I'm interested in learning more about the pan pastels. Are they in the $4 membership?

Beautiful work! What color is that Unison Pastel that you used on the muzzle?

My biggest concern with joining your Patreon is that I wonder if it is setup similar to the KZbin videos where reference photos are often not visible for the entire video. Personally for me, seeing what your drawing from the beginning would help me to better to understand the “Why is he doing this? “Why is he doing that?”

Is that tool a pallet knife? It looks awkward. Great result though.
@wildlifeartjm5 жыл бұрын
It is like that. There are many different panpastel tos available
@RamoArt5 жыл бұрын
It's not awkward to use at all, it actually feels really natural! I didn't think there was a learning curve to using the tools. :)

Hi, Jason, I would like to ask you if you think Pan Pastels are ok to be used as an underpainting for oils. I'm thinking of doing an underpainting in pan pastels, fix it with a caseine spray (similar to Spectrafix) and then use oil glazes on top (no turpentine). The support is gessoed paper (with the Liquitex transparent gesso that works well both with pastels and oils). Of course one can mix whatever mediums they want but I want to know your thoughts on the durability and true compatibilty of such two mediums put togheter. Thanks!
@wildlifeartjm4 жыл бұрын
I have never tried that myself, but I have used charcoal as an underlayer, then spray fixed that, before putting oils onto and that worked perfectly. So in theory I can't see what it would not work the same. If was not a heavy layer of charcoal though. So I would certainly test it out 1st.

Hi Jason. Just getting into pastels. What weight of pastelmat do you use. I’ve got a pad of pastelmat 1. Is this ok?
@wildlifeartjm5 жыл бұрын
Pastel at comes in 1weight only. But you can also get if as card. Surface is identical so makes no difference. I have lots on my channel here about papers ey.

we have both used the same FREE reference photo, nothing more. Who did it first I have no idea. You need to get your facts correct before making accusations.

Great video! I only made one paiting with pan pastels so far. On Pastelmat. I tried to use the applicators very lightly. But still I damage them during one painting. I have seen video's where they use synthetic paint/make-up brushes (with very soft hairs). Did you ever tried that? What do you think of that? Would it work on Pastelmat?
@wildlifeartjm5 жыл бұрын
See my videos on that.
@sandragordijn72755 жыл бұрын
@@wildlifeartjm I did see your video on make up sponges. And I agree with you on that one. Do you also have a video on actual brushes. I mean the ones with hairs, not the sponges… I can't seem to find this. My apologies if I overlooked
