Having my life turned upside down recently I have avoided painting when I’m sad for painting what’s inside me. There are times it’s very dark especially after losing my husband of 47 years. But you’ve given me inspiration to try. Thank you, Mark, I needed some encouragement. 🌹Annie B

A perfect way to start the day, unfortunately mine turn out crap and just make me feel worse, not always but sometimes, great video though. Thanks Mark, I appreciate all you do and show on here.

Honestly, I've never had someone comment on the "kindness" in my videos. That made me very happy. Thank you for such a wonderful compliment. I will strive to bring more of that to my channel, too! Be well, Vipuccino! ~ Mark

I just found your Videos today. But this Content saved me today, from going all moody and depressed again. I know you are not a therapist, but i have experience with this stuff and this is exactly what they should have told us. Being honest and sketch out what you really feel. Trough my sketches i discovered myself again and i drew some really dark stuff in a really dark time. I felt really down today and this Video kept me going, cause finally someone understud me. So thanks for saving my day. Keep on doing your amazing Videos. By the way i am a starter, thats why i am frustrated a lot.

Every journey starts somewhere and we're all noobs until we have spent years on traveling and exploring all kinds of different paths. I'm older now and I've found the path that I'm happy on, but there have been many that left me in those places, too. Drawing and music have always been my safety zones and I continue to go to them, every day when I need to. I'm happy the video held something for you and I'm so grateful that you shared your thoughts with me. Thank you for that, bia bri. My only advice to you would be to respect the level you are at. If you're frustrated, it only means you are growing - because otherwise, you'd be complacent and there's nothing worse for an artist than complacency. Cheers! ~ Mark

One thing just hit me between the eye's Mark, you have just proved to me no matter how good you are at anything you still have to go to work and sit in a cubicle of a Car or on a subway train etc but when someone as talented as you, who has his own web page must be loaded right?, no even you have to go to work in a cubicle and do Graphs etc for a Job. It proves to me how hard it must be to make money out of our Art.

Bob Byrne, there are realities in life that some people ponder and do not act upon, putting aside their passion in favor of paying the bills; there are others who pursue their passions, fruitlessly working their fingers to the bone, yet never get ahead enough to buy a new car or afford proper medical care; others engage in relationships where their partner has the money which allows them the opportunities to pursue their passions, which is providence for them, but very rare for most of us; then, there are those who figure it out or even just happen to be fortunate in their ability to pursue their passion, turn it into that cubicle career, and make a proper living from it. We're all afforded the same opportunities from youth (with some exceptions, obviously), and like you said, no matter how good you are (or not so good), the decisions to pursue certain avenues over others is how we grow as adults. I worry about the upcoming generation of young people who are not being taught the general tactics of survival in the adult world. Even my own kids are unprepared, overall, for that reality - despite my example and what I've taught them. So, yes, it is a huge challenge to figure out how to make a living from art. I never sought to be a graphic designer, but here I am. And I'm very fortunate to have found this path. Cheers! :)

us emo artist kids talk about this type of art, calling it "Vent art" and it has helped me so much, i usually do really sketchy messy red and black sharpie doodles and it helps a lot. i don't usually see videos like this and its cool to see a professionals opinion on this, i would always feel bad for doing vent art in my sketchbook because i thought (trying to become a professional as well coming out of school and such), thats its not professional, its not helping me improve but now seeing another big artist that i look up to talk about creating this emotional outlet out of art, i feel so much better about using my sketchbook to just drawing sketchy angry and sad versions of myself. thanks Mark for your insight on this!

I do the same usually. I just tend to use colors and let things form as they want too. I put on music and just feel. Let the color move, and whatever I end up with is usually pretty cool.

A good reminder to channel our emotions. Very often these feeling of sadness or disappointment, or just feeling stuck are giving us messages and information we've been ignoring. Letting that out can be so liberating, but also can result in some unexpected growth in our practice. Thanks for the prompt.
@MDCampbell6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching, Just J, and for leaving your feedback. I agree about the liberation of letting things out, but as I've learned, it's also important to be careful on how and where we let things out. I recently had someone express their frustrations of life to me (not about me), which I walked away from feeling exhausted and drained. I had allowed someone else to control my own feelings, which left me heavy and weighed down. I had to snap myself out of it, but it was a good reminder to ensure that I keep myself in check and recognize when I'm susceptible to letting the emotions of others. Not sure if that makes sense. :)
@joannahigginsartenchantres19026 жыл бұрын
It makes perfect sense. It's a kind of empathic overload. We want to help our friends and loved ones when they have too much to bear, but sometimes that exchange insinuates itself inside us creatives. You can usually tell when this has happened by the way it makes you feel kind of confused and overwhelmingly sad but you don't know why. Once I realize this kind of thing has happened, I double check if I am actually upset about something myself or if I maybe helped carry someone else's load and forgot to put it back down. If the latter, I do some kind of self care to help let it go (being creative is very helpful, as is meditation) and then recover myself and my equilibrium.

Binging on your videos, this weekend; I tend to turn away from my creativity when upset/sad. Nice to hear someone encourage getting "it" out, instead of holding it in ... 💙

Loving all your videos. This one speaks volumes. Drawing when down and sad is an eye opening experience. PS. Watching you has inspired me to try water colors. I have a cheap set I will try one the dry, will be saving for better ones. I usually just use markers.

Thank you, Lance! I really appreciate your time watching this and especially for commenting. I'm glad to hear you'll consider trying watercolors. They take some time to understand, so be patient and don't get too discouraged! I'm in the reverse, where I want to get back into markers, but it's been a long time! Stay well! :)

Wow. So sorry to read that, Quack Silver. Loss in our lives can be devastating and affect everything about us, our routines, and our fortitude in moving forward, even in basic steps. I hope you and your family are doing well and finding the strength you need to persevere during this challenging time. Stay well.

@bridgetarender767676 жыл бұрын
There is really no point whether you’re artists or not. Everything is a copy and fabricated so inspiration is dead for many. Could be in an oppressive environment you r in or broken down by life you just throw away your paints and drawings because who gives a shit you can get a damn print at many websites and stores. We need to go back to the classics re discover more but there is so much stress and depression out there it kills the artist and you just another working class individual. Plus time is hard to make when you work 3 jobs too. Most of us work 2 jobs as an average. Sometimes it is hard to find inspiration omg some one did that already never mind then. Got tired of making that junk not like going to sell it anyways and I ask couple ppl if they needed a landscape or watercolor pics and etc no one wanted it didn’t look at it either. So I guess they thought it was junk anyways. But it helped to let it go and tear it up and throw it away, the disappointment and frustration from yrs trying to get seen but no one dared to look, didn’t bother to enter contest or galleries because you know the answer already is no sorry no interested. Sometimes you got to just let it go. Move on, that part of you is dead and it’s time to move on you know.
