Ok, just finished this one and I’m psyched! 😀 I’m loving learning this with the twins, it’s cool! (“Dad you’re gonna buy me a Wacom right?” Love it 😂) I don’t feel so alone in my learning thanks guys! I’m gonna post my attempts on my IG page. I was pausing it every couple seconds Tom was drawing, and I picked up on so much I’d missed learning before. Two big things for me were the proportions and the movement of strokes. First, just how much practice goes in to naturally dividing the circle up in to thirds (yea I’m a geek like that I measured and Tom’s was SPOT ON by eye) and when I tried what I THOUGHT looked like that proportion what I actually measured was quite a ways off. 🙈 And that massively changed the look of things like you said. Second, when you mentioned the shape of eyes and mouth I was pausing to draw the strokes along with you and it reminded me of in school when you learn the alphabet by numbered strokes. When I broke it down like that, again, massive difference between what I THOUGHT I was drawing and what actually came out. Also other stuff like I realised when I draw the crosshairs for the eyes mine were super straight instead of a little curved, which changed things too. Really really cool!! 👍🏼 Can’t wait for the next one!! It would be cool to have a hashtag for it and people can share pics along the way and learn from each other too.

I’ve been struggling lately to transform realistic proportions to cartoony proportions, this is exactly what I needed! P.S loving your character design book Tom.
