It's filled with queer (gay/lesbian, bi, ace, non-binary, etc) and neurodivergent characters, with very passionate and diverse authors and artists. The High Republic is also VERY weird, and embraces it. It allows itself to be silly sometimes (hence Geode. The characters are just as confused as the rest of us, lol). For anyone wondering about Geode, it’s actually kind of a running joke throughout the book that, although he is described as having the capability of movement, manipulation, and communication, he never actually does any of that in any of the scenes he is in. Other characters will treat him as a full character with a full personality, but to the reader, he is straight up just a big rock.

One of my Memorable Mug Moments was my mom breaking the saucer of a cup and saucer limited edition Bugs Bunny mug that I used all the time for coffee. She wanted to surprise me by washing it where I had left it in the sink to wash after breakfast. She remarked to me how she liked that it was a combined cup and saucer, but wished they could separate for easier washing. While still eating breakfast at the table, I informed her that they are two different pieces, just sometimes if coffee spills in the saucer they get temporarily stuck but easily become unstuck. To prove me wrong she lifted the two by just the cup handle out of the sink and over the kitchen floor, where the saucer separated by gravity and fell to the floor, shattering. She offered to get me another one but I had to tell her not only do they not make them anymore but the store that sold it went under 15 years ago. Just another example of the adage I now liked to repeat, "Helping by doing something you have not been asked to do is not helping."

As an avid Rebels fan, it breaks my heart that my favorite characters are subjected to the self-referential live action treatment instead of the continuation of their stories in the original animated medium that people came to love them for.
