Hello again😊,do so love your gentle voice and as always, letting us have the freedom to " you do you" ,so having our own orignals.Also do like the pleasant members of this community; they tend to chat to their materials and equipment ,too.Like hearing the ripping sounds- my great aunt once showed me grand ma's Sunday stitchery- where they sewed the edges of sheets together!The stitches were so tiny and neat,would leave a sewing machine envious!She often used pulled threads from the material to stitch with,too.Best wishes, J.I.M.K Mrs. Brisbane, Australia 🇦🇺 ♥ 😀 julia.

Oooh sheer delight! I freeze framed your main cloth and drooled over the slow stitching - especially loved the circles with seed stitch. And the muted colours are gorgeous! Then went into raptures over the exquisite eco dyed liner - yes please to a tutorial on eco dying. And I love the method of constructing the bag. It demystifies the whole right sides together bagging out terror... Also, imperial is the only way to go. It must be our age. So now I'm going to watch it again. Yes, I know I need to get a life but I'm completely snowed in and this makes perfect cosy sense. Mary x

You have grown up with inches (and quarter inches, and feet and alike) ... I grew up in a 'metric country' (the Netherlands). The way I can imagine an inch is: it's a quarter of a decimeter (1 dm = 10 cm), because 10 cm and 4 inches is almost the same ... And I have a measuring tape that has centimeters on one side and inches on the other side. 🙂🙃

I don't get along with regular thimbles either, since I tend to push the needle with the side of my middle finger. Everyone told me that my method is weird and I only have to get used to 'the normal way', until I discovered that there are adjustable ring thimbles! I have them in metal, leather and a combination of both and I love them. They're also quite common in Japan, like the sashiko discs.

I mainly sew apparel and I think what I tend to do is akin to slow stitch. I take my time and make decisions as I go, sometimes I use a machine and sometimes I hand stitch, based on multiple factors in my head. I've been watching your videos while doing a massive project, a winter coat made of heavy wool. It has a 164 inch hem that I'm doing a line of cross-stitch on, with a heavy needle and yarn that matches the wool. While I'm stitching I'm thinking of the way I want to handle the buttons and button holes and other finishing. I often switch to hand stitching when I want to have a think about the finishing, even when the project doesn't demand it.

You told about 'sponge cakes' and I thought of the old Dutch 'evenveeltjes'... 'Even veel' means 'the same amount'. For those (small) cakes the batter has 'the same amount' (probably 'by eye') of eggs, butter and flour. Maybe even the sugar used to be the same amount, but I think that's a little too sweet. I still need to find out if they were made by pouring small heaps of the batter on the baking tray, so they looked like little round cookies (Oops, now we can start a discussion on the words 'biscuits', 'cookies', etc.)
@k3n.clothtales

According to Google, Clover has "flexible rubber thimbles". I have the same issues with metal thimbles that you do; can't like them, though I admit they are useful in certain circumstances. One day I'll get some rubber thimbles - have the feeling they wouldn't be so obtrusive as the fabric is worked.

Hi, Kathryn! I so love this bag! Love, love, love, love! Now that I have learnt how to do the twine, I can’t wait to start on this! I have a thing for bags! All kinds of bags! Although I’m in a Mediterranean climate, I always have cold hands, many times even in summer. Actually, I’m so used to cold hands that when they’re hot (in really hot weather), I feel uncomfortable. I don’t use a thimble either. My mother used one and she taught me how to use it, but when she saw I didn’t like it, she didn’t insist on it. 🩵🧡♥️💚💙💛🤍🤎🩷💜

I'm not understanding the angle of your stitches. Is it straight across or at an angle? So I zoomed in and I think this is what I saw. The stitches go across at right angles and the you angle ahead to place the next stitch coming across and repeat around(doing what you call a whip stitch.)I went and enlarged my screen zooming in to have a closer look. My eyes would benefit seeing a line drawing. It has been over 50yrs of using classes. I love the hand work. Need to make one of these rice bags for my EPP. I am stitching half inch pieces. I grew up with inches and yards. I moved to Canada and had to translate my dress or quilting patterns to metric. I enjoy a cook book where they give you both measures. Thank you so very much. I just found you in January 2024.

Hi Kathryn, once again you have inspired me to make something that is both beautiful and functional. I love the fact that you are frugal ( in the nicest sense) and artistic in your designs with an edginess to your creativity. Can I ask this though ……. I know you have developed your knowledge of sewing, eco printing and your art over the years by lots of time put into it….. but wondering on average how many hours do you spend sewing a day/ week doing??? I know we all have different lives, the fullness of them etc but I’m just interested in it all as you are very productive and put out amazing KZbin’s for all of to aspire to. Oh by the way I have been to Exmouth too. A few years ago I did a hiking trip doing , Waymouths Coast to Coast walk across England love, loved it and then a little mini bus trip down the Cornwall area. Some absolutely stunning country. Sorry gone on and on Cheers Cathy😊😊

Hello Cathy, the West Country is beautiful isn't it. I sew most evenings, either for my own pieces or prepping for videos. Set up, filming etc maybe takes three times as long as the video itself plus another couple of hours editing. But I enjoy it. It's pretty quiet in winter, I am hoping I am still able to fit it all in when the garden starts growing 😉😁❤️

Good morning Kate, or I should probably say good afternoon to you.. it’s morning here on the west coast of California . and yes I dug through some of my fabric I do have a nice variety of the laundry basket fabric. I wanted something that kind of looked a little antique so I took some coffee and dyed it to change up the color and then started ripping apart fabric and yes nothing like the sound of tearing fabric . so I have a junk journal started. I am starting to do slow stitching on it now. since I’ve been watching your videos I’m really a quilt maker but instead of having my quilts sent off to a long arm quilter I’ve been doing slow stitching on my quilts and I just love doing hand stitching… also trying to learn Kantha style also .. but as soon as I get some progress going on my junk journal I will post some pictures again thanks for your inspiration they all are so beautiful
