Greetings DRS, very informative footage. I have a starter dilemma you may be able to help me solve? I have a Suzuki 1216cc 11.5:1 Comp ratio street bike. I had the engine built for high performance, and was told the top & bottom cases from a Suzuki 750cc would mate up perfectly. They did, except for the 1200 starter. I must use the 750 starter, but it struggles to turn over most of the time. Can you recommend a solution that doesn't involve taking the motor apart? Thank you in advance!

I have the same ATV that you used in the video, followed the steps but have a problem. The starter spins, all the reduction gears spin, the motor does not turn over. My ATV ran ok before I removed and replaced the bad brushes. All of the reduction gears are in the right places and like I stated, they all spin. Any ideas? Please.

After replacing the solenoid and starter brushes my TRX 300, worked fine for about 2 weeks. Then one day when riding, the starter just started cranking "the running engine" which forced me to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. What may be the cause please?

I replaced my brushes and it seems the starter is turning the wrong direction. I checked the gears and they do engage to turn the motor but not when I activate the starter, it spins free. Is it possible I put the armature housing on upside down? Would this change the direction of spin?

Do you have any experience on rebuilding a polaris 4 brush starter motor? I may be doing that soon and I am wondering if there are any tricks to getting the brushes to seat correctly and easily as it may not have the wiggle room like in this two brush set up. The motor is for a 96 polaris 400 sportsman two stroke 4x4. Thanks.

This is a good video, you can use small screws to hold the springs back inplace to stop the brush protruding out while you slide armature through, as some starters let you do this, remove the screws once in place and then place both end caps onto the starter. I did this on my yamaha 1100 starter motor which has a 4 brush plate set up. Hope this helps and may the force be with you.

Thanks for the reply. Turns out, that the starter is a two brush unit. Easiest part in the rebuild was taking the unit apart and inserting the brushes. Polaris didn't place the starter in a convenient location. What a job getting it out with all the stuff to remove just to get at the bolts. Glad that's done. Thanks again.
