I'm in this process now. Took me 7 years in the corporate world before finally making the first steps towards a career in medicine. Took my nursing entrance exam today; now we wait for acceptance! 🤞 Its reassuring to hear that others have realized that the corporate world isn't fitting, just as I am realizing the same.

Nursing is not a bad career especially if you value time over money. However, I know travel nurses who can get well into 100k or even 200k. Some I know get 8000/week with COVID. You can get a job in nearly every city. Being an RN has unlimited flexibility.

This video has been such an inspiration for me. I moved into the oil industry in Engineering as an expatriate, because it sounded glamorous. Guess i was wrong. In my current job my brain feel like a mash patato, as there are no incentives, a lot of uncertainty, no freedom or opportunity to be creative and challenged. And the covid issue is compounding it to such a degree where the working environment has become miserable. Thanks for the inspiration!

I can totally relate with your bartender analogy. For me, I worked as a Computer Technician and I loved how different every customer was. Every issue was unique and it would always feel rewarding to creatively solve it. My colleagues would even joke with me about being the "Computer Doctor". Thanks for the video because you now have me considering medical school with a computer science undergrad.

I went to school for Culinary Arts, through out my 6 years of working I realized that I enjoyed it and loved it but I did not see myself in that position for long term, so I spoke with my mom about how I want to take a mental health break while I was focusing on other paths that will well suit me long term, along with loving it and enjoying it. I am glad Radiology took my attention and I really do appreciate the information and guidance per paths of different ways and jobs to get into Radiology. I will say even if you liked your job and don't see yourself in it long term don't give up regardless of age you will achieve greater things. :)

@@Wilkins325 I spent around 3 years in a community college taking general courses after I was laid off just so I could take classes that I enjoyed. Ultimately I had so many science courses that I figured I could just apply those toward a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at a 4 year school. Congrats on being enrolled in college. That is the first step and it sounds like you are looking to do big things with your life. Good luck with everything!

Exactly one year ago I, myself, did a change. I stayed on medicine, but I swtched area. I'm board certified in internal medicine and I choose pharmacovigilance as I worked as a research investigator. Now I'm a safety physician at a pharmaceutical company and I couldn't be more happier. Kudos!👍

YES!!! I was a bartender for several years of my 20's, and stopped a couple of years back, and guess what, TODAY I got hired for a scribe position!!!!! That ending made me super happy! I've always said that the customer service skills from bartending/the communication with others will help in the long run!

Yeah because residents are still considered students. When you complete those 4yrs you can go into private practice and all your time will be yours. As someone as popular as cellini, him doing that path will be no problem for him either.

This is such a great video, except I was in the field of Media. Learning all about media law, ethics, all to work for someone else and to help them grow as a company. Very burned out and I knew i always wanted to go into medicine just didn't know which area. So after doing volunteering and gaining several certifications, and work experience in Cardiology allowed me to see that becoming a PA is something I want to do and now I'm pursuing it. Best decision ever! Thank you for such an amazing video.

As a first year student who is majoring in Management and thinking about switching majors to Kinesiology, this video is actually very helpful. Before even starting my first year at university I was questioning whether or not I was ready for corporate life, and I'm definitely not. After much consideration and talking with my older brother who is a nursing student, he suggested that I major in Kinesiology at my university and consider going to PA school afterwards. Quite frankly I'm terrified because I don't consider myself a studious person, but in order to do something I'm actually passionate about, I think I'm willing to take the challenge. Worked in corporate administration after leaving high school...hated it. Studied small business management, wasn't for me. Then I worked as a bar tender & went to university/college at 21 to study a Bachelor of nursing, Worked as a Radiology & NICU Nurse, then did my postgraduate diploma in Midwifery, wasn't for me. So after a year as a Midwife, at 28 went back to do another postgraduate diploma in diagnostic medical Sonography...8 years now in Ultrasound & loving it! I agree, bar tending is great practice for working in Medical...you deal with all kinds of people.

Definitely in a similar boat. I majored in Econ and got a job in finance after college. Hated that and now I work in tech. I hate it here and want to pursue a career in medicine so I’m starting my post bacc program in a few weeks! It took a few different jobs and trying different industries out to realize what makes me excited. I’ve thought about engineering, law, and more but medicine is the only thing that gets me going. Gonna suck it up in tech for the next couple years as I do my course work bc the pay is really good, but I dream of the day I get to leave.

I recently came across your channel and started watching a bunch of videos. I can relate to calculating how much time is wasted on commute. I drive 40 to 45 minutes to work and could get weeks back if I had something closer. There are some other jobs closer in my current field but some I know are bad jobs and others are very hard to get into because there are so many bad manufacturing jobs. I am challenged in my job but not in a way that I like. The only way to move up would be to go to the corporate office which I am not interested in. I try to help out our operators and make their jobs easier and more efficient but everything goes to making the company ridiculous amounts of money. Now I know heslthcare systems make ridiculous amounts of money but there is some redeeming value in the day to day work in helping patients. I realized I didn't like it that much early on but kept telling myself it was me and that I didn't appreciate it ( some of that comes from the culture). I have been working on prerequisites for much longer than I wanted to. Probably 5 to 6 years now and I am in my late 30s. I haven't been able to accelerate that due to financial reasons, but I am hoping to not bomb my organic chem final and apply to one school shortly after and then take biochem and apply to another. Unfortunately I have low PCE and do not know exactly who to use for my LORs. One thing I liked about being a PCT is that it is different people every day. Including co workers depending on the setting. I feel like I would learn a lot more. I think I have similar reasons to you. I just am not going to become a doctor. Maybe if I was still in my 20s I might try the MD route but being in late 30s and a dad and the ability for a PA to change specialties easier and less schooling is a bigger plus for me. Hi Dr Cellini, I am marketing professional and I wanna leave this corporate domain (Just like you) and transition to OT (occupational theraphy). There are quite few obstacles which I am facing right now. Firstly I do not have a background in science or healthcare. Plus I am very close to 30 and hold no real educations qualifications in OT domain. What would be your advise at this point of time? In the process of transitioning from corporate to medicine and the corporate employer is now lowering my pay and being hostile with me because I’m not retiring with their company. I related hard to that bartending comparison so hard. I've found a sort of liking to it while in Med school ~ also sounded better in my head ~ but it's neat to have that knowledge and directly apply it yourself; to be the one to start and finish that process without needing to go to any other person. Only difference here is that the trial and error process only leaves you with a mediocre cocktail rather than risking a life 🤣
