Thank you for talking about the phycological aspect of dealing with food. I now eat two meals a day with an 18 hour fasting window. I can still hear parent tapes from my youth telling me to clean my plate and then telling me how fat I was. I am still 50 pounds over weight and have been a type 2 diabetic for 20 years. I now eat a ketovore diet and feel like I have a new lease on life. I suffered a heart attack this last May and have no damage to my heart because I walk 3-5 miles 5x a week and eat clean. I feel the damage to my arteries is from the years of insulin resistance. Thank God I have a new lease on life.

Taking notes, because Rob always has such INCREDIBLE points! ❤ 1. Don’t ever worry about numbers. 2000 calories a day is an arbitrary idea that is most definitely not accurate to most people. 2000 calories, for most people, _is not maintenance_ - it’s overeating. If you’re not losing weight by eating 2000 calories, it means that you’re overeating, because when you eat an _actual normal amount,_ your body will naturally get to a healthy, lean weight. (SUCH an incredible point!) *To add to this - I’ve always had a sense of dread when trying to lose weight because I feel like I’m depriving myself by “eating less than maintenance”. This sense of dread has often caused me to self-sabotage. If I think of it as _not overeating_ rather than depriving myself in any way, then the mental aspect of it all will be null and void! 2. Eat sequentially. Split what you eat into halves or thirds, and put the rest out of sight. When you’re done eating, distract yourself with something emotionally pleasing to override the emotional tension that would otherwise go to food. If you’re still hungry after 10-20 minutes, repeat. 3. Always add fat if there isn’t anything visible. Satiety! Feel free to add some other notes in the replies if you’d like! I’m writing at breakneck speed just trying to get down the most important points that I remembered. 😅

He’s talking about binge eaters. These tips are fantastic. If you don’t understand what he’s talking about, then you aren’t a binge eater. I can binge on anything that tastes good to me. Give me a bowl of broccoli, I’m eating the whole thing cause it tastes good to me. It’s so easy to eat until you are in pain and still want more. These tips help, especially for those of us who were brought up to clean your plate or you’re in trouble. If you use a smaller plate, put less food on it, and put the rest in the fridge, and distract yourself for 10-15 min after eating, chances are you won’t go back into the fridge to heat up more. Especially your family helps and are on the same page.
@gigid9606Ай бұрын
And also just because u ate the entire bowl doesn't mean you binged on that broccoli
@bethmeltzer72082 ай бұрын
Binge eating can be more complicated than that. Food as comfort can be related to childhood or even adult trauma--it’s easy to confuse the feeling of safety with the feeling that comes from food, often specific foods. I’ve coached many people who struggle with binge or emotional eating. You’ve got to separate the feelings from the food.

Thank goodness for this message! I've had my coach, son and parents and sister - well intention people who want to support me to lose 40kgs, constantly telling me about calories. Or, I have to eat 150g of protein a day! Most of the time, I can get by with a fatty coffee and then dinner. I just don't feel I need to always eat or eat so much meat. I feel best on the fat and again, well meaning people telling me to cut out the sat fats! Yet they will not comment on me eating mash and veg or chocolate or other desserts! So I now feel armed with Dr Cywes and I hope I can finally start to shift my weight. I do believe in this binge eating as that's how I was brought up to eat, eat to clean the plate and I have to eat big meals with everyone. Too much. I'm also watching ketogenic woman to help with small portion meal ideas. For example, she only ate 3oz of fatty pork jowls, 3oz!!!! that was one meal. I now know this is the right thing to do. Thank you doc.

This is one of your best videos yet! I've been on a carnivore w.o.e. for almost two years now and while it's been an amazing thing for my health, overeating is still a danger. A couple of the other well known carnivore doctors, including at least one that's a friend of yours, say you should "eat til comfortably stuffed" which is probably not great advice unless the food is 'perfect' which it rarely is. Still, some of it takes care of itself. Before I started eating a carnivore w.o.e. I could very easily eat a 20 oz steak! But now I really struggle to eat a 14oz steak in one sitting. And that's probably good! I'm not a caveman, I'm not chasing down my meals on the savanna. Nor am I a ditch digger or brick layer, doing hard physical labor for 12 hours per day in the sun. I don't need that much food but I've always just been used to eating too much. Again, great video!

I agree with almost everything you say and love your videos. Having said that, concerning myself specifically, I disagree that snacking is always an emotional event. Of course, this does depend upon our definitions of snacking. There are times I will have a small amount of food with me in case I get hungry and i'm not able to make a meal. This is rare and usually happens when I'm on an excursion where I know I will be away from making food for a while. My snacks are usually cheese or bacon or some other carnivore food I can carry with me. This snack tides me over. Snacking for me is a strategically planned contingency. It is not emotional.

When you've finished that reduced portion, take a break to allow time for your satiety hormones to do their job by distracting yourself with some other activity. If you're still hungry after that serve yourself up some more of the meal. Do this consistently for a couple of weeks and you may find that you're not needing to eat any more after the mid-meal break. Dr Robert listening to you the past couple of days has really given me an Ahhaaa moment. We have all been overeating without even understanding what we are doing to our bodies. No other carnivore or ketogenic doctor has explained what you have, about the amount of food if you want to lose fat, weight and size. 🤨 In fact they say just “eat until you are comfortably stuffed”. They haven’t gone into the level of detail about binge eating emotional eating and quantity 🤷🏻♀️ So of course we are over fuelling our bodies which results in sustaining the same size/weight. I started the ketogenic diet in October 2020. I started with Dr Jason Fung, Eric Berg and then Dr Ken Berry, Dr Westman and Dr Baker. Dr Paul Saladino confused the heck out of me. Dr Anthony Chaffee is so obsessed with JUST grass fed meat and water. Lastly Dr Mindy Pelz is probably the most important for me because I’m post menopause and she is going through menopause. This is her area of speciality.

Most of them I thought were just age related. Turns out they weren't! They were all due to chronic inflammation. Everything from sleep apnea to high blood pressure and so much more. Cured! I lost about 60 lbs. I still struggle with my weight but I maintain where I am now and haven't gone back to my obese self. It seems that "pleasantly plump" is just me and I'm okay with that. Thanks for all that you do! You are saving lives! By the way, I cancelled the sleeve appointment. Did it all myself, thanks to you!

Being diabetic means you do need to be getting your CAC score done at least annually. He also recommends taking low dose aspirin daily if you don't have issues with bleeding. That will help prevent further plaque formation. He has videos for what to do if your CAC score is on an increasing trend but the best thing would be to do a consult with his team if your CAC is increasing every time.

I have binge eating disorder which also gave me bulimia but not making myself throw up but over exercise. I train 3x a day and even throughout the day 7 days a week. I pinch my skin on my belly without even think about it. My gf and friends say I'm the fittest 45yr old they've ever seen but i don't see it st all. I've binged 3 days in a row. And yes, it physically hurts but i still keep on eating then i feel quilty then put myself down and the training begins again. It's a vicious cycle for me. Tonight was the 3rd night of binging and I'm losing my mind over it and cannot wait to train and workout. I hate this feeling of being overly full and i hate myself because I'm feeling so ugly, so weak and worthless. I purge my fridge of shit food every week telling myself to never buy this shit again but i always fail. I hate this. I hate the way i look but ppl say differently. I just can't believe it.

How about type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance? Hormones work differently than normal people. Can they still lose weight like eating this

And on the other side of the coin? Meaning if you begin to lose weight when you don't want to? I would assume then, that you should increase your intake. Would that be correct?

SO IT IS A LIE TO EAT UNTIL COMFORABLY STUFFED??????? And to eat 140 grams of protein if that is your ideal weight ?????? I’m eating OMAD. Just a decent sized meal. I’m getting uncomfortably full. And a weight lose stall. I will eat less & not feel guilty about it after this video
@sandycastles71052 ай бұрын
Same, but when I had a major stall, I jumped up my calories. result: wallah!

Try what he said. Reduce the size of your meal initially and add a source of fat. This is just temporary until you've reached your desired body composition.

@@sharonandes9444 Are you over-eating protein? Try lowering protein to 1g/kg body weight. Aim for 20% protein and 80% fat as your macros. Excess protein, unless you are heavy weight training, are converted to glucose and too much glucose will raise insulin so it is stored in fat cells. Also check that you are not simply losing fat and putting on muscle. You might stay the same weight but be getting strong and losing fat. I wish I had measured everything as my weight loss has stalled but I can do more press-ups than before.

Thank you for all your wisdom on the importance of being healthy. I have one question. I know sugar/carbs is an addiction and we shouldn’t eat it. But once in a while if I do eat something unhealthy, I would like to know which is the better of the 2 evils of sugar/ carbs. For example. 1 Eating the whole donut in one day, or taking small bites that take a 3 days? My thought is, eat it in one day and raise my insulin for one day instead of 3. What is your opinion?
@ekondigg67512 ай бұрын
With your caveat aside ("I know sugar/carbs is an addiction and we shouldn’t eat it"), anything that has refined carbs, especially sugar, is something we're not really "designed" for. Especially sugar. It will cause an insulin spike. Raised insulin after a meal is natural and normal, but a spike is not, it's an emergency response to glucose coming into the blood at an unnaturally high rate, typically followed after 2-3 hours by an overshoot into hypoglycaemia. So taking smaller bites over several days will reduce, or even eliminate, an insulin spike, and for that reason it's better (or less bad) than eating it all at once.
