Absolutely fascinating. "Saves women's lives!" LOL With all of the exposed gears and moving parts, doing laundry was certainly no walk in the park. I'd wager there were many injuries through the years until safety issues were addressed. Thanks again, DrDaveBilliards, for a wonderful glimpse into our past. Your work is appreciated.

Chubby Checker did not get the idea for the Twist from a washing machine. Hank Ballard and his band invented the Twist in the late 1950's and were the first to record the song in 1959. Chubby covered it a year later and had a hit with it and his version of the dance is the one that became popular. I don't know where Mr. Maxwell got his info but it was wrong!

@Skinny Dee Throwing shade on an old man? What I stated above is documented facts on how Chubby Checker came to record the Twist and I believe in giving proper credit where it is due..
