Hi Andrea! Fellow doctor here, but an academic PhD, in Houston Texas! I truly appreciate this particular vid on oily skin. I’m a 37-year-old Arab American female with incredibly oily skin, who only recently discovered the benefit of a daily SPF. My GP basically roasted me because I have developed patches of rosacea on my cheeks in the last few years, and apparently that is likely due to never using sunscreen for 35 years and daily exfoliating. I am going to my local drugstore to pick up a couple CeraVe products. I LOVE that you recommend affordable skincare. If you are practicing I would also love to come in for a consultation. Thanks for all you do!

Awe I just bought the CeraVe Renewing SA cleanser two days ago and have really enjoyed it so far! It's a really great in dash between if the foaming and Hydrating cleansers by cerave. It's a lovely gel type cream Text it's a lovely gel type cream texture with a little foam, not a ton. I'm describing the texture for anyone reading this who has not tried it! I find it leaves my skin very soft rather than stripped or dry feeling. I follow with hydration serum and facial mist, then the CeraVe moisturizing cream, yes the cream. I have actually decanted some of this lotion from the tub into a 3 ounce squeeze tube to make it easier and more hygienic to use. When I do use it, I add a single drop of squalane oil and several spritzes of a hydrating mist. It's a far less thick but still very moisturizing and protective, without grassiness or heaviness. Anyways, this cleanser is very effective and rather elegant to use as well!

Dr. Dray thank you so very much for taking the time to put these videos together for us! I have incredibly oily skin, cavernous pores, and sebaceous hyperplasia. As did my mother. The SH is just now getting noticeably worse at 45yo. And while it's my understanding that I'm stuck with it, I'd like to slow it down if it's at all possible! I had absolutely NO idea about a link between cow's milk/dairy products and oil, so you've given me a little hope that my oil issue may be decreased a bit by being away from dairy. I'm going to do some reading and see about decreasing my intake. Skin like mine can make a person feel completely helpless. To learn some tips like the ones you've shared help me regain a bit of a feeling of control over my skin woes, and that is very meaningful. I'm sincerely grateful you share your knowledge with us!

Thank you so much! A response about Cera Ve products from someone with oily skin... I love the oily/normal type skin cleanser and both am and pm moisturizers. They don't dry out the skin and aren't heavy or oily. They're the perfect balance. The cleanser really is nice because it doesn't strip away the natural protective barrier of my skin, so it doesn't feel itchy, dry or irritated. I loved your tip to always follow up with a moisturizer to keep your oil glands from freaking out and producing extra oil after your skin has been dried out by a cleanser, mask or topical. Anyway, I think the Cera Ve line is a miracle 💜

With CeraVe moisturizers, I have tried the Moisturizing Cream, the AM formula and the PM formula. I used the Cream thanks to your recommendation but find that it’s too heavy for me to use during the day time. However, I find that it works great as a nighttime moisturizer (at least for right now during the dry winters). The AM formula does the same thing to me; I get VERY oily as the day goes on. The PM formula, however IS AMAZING!!! It leaves me perfectly moisturized! Before using the Cream I would just use the PM in both my morning and night routines. I plan on now using both the AM and PM moisturizers in the morning in order to get the hydration and UV protection. Additionally, as someone with a tanner skin tone, the AM moisturizer doesn’t leave the ghostly white cast that I know too well. Hopefully this is helpful to some people! P.s. I have normal to oily skin but it’s VERY easy for my skin to get oily when prompted.

My skin has started to break out and it’s upsetting because school starts in 5 days and I don’t want to go into school like this. I went to Walmart last week and bought the Oil Free Neutrogena Face wash and along with that got a clay mask and tea tree oil from Burt’s bees. My current skin care routine order is this: 1. Neutrogena Face wash 2. mario badescu rose water toner 3. Proactiv Repairing Treatment 4. Green Tea Moisturizer I’m not 100 percent sure if it was the aftermath proactiv chemicals or my new skin care routine that messed up my skin but I don’t know how I can at least clear up most of it before school starts.

im not dermatologists but the mario bed-whatever its called is just chemicals it will not help you. take that out of ur routine. i also recommend drinking water. you could also try out pimple patches/ or a pimple cream. they have some great ones at target! pimple patches reduce inflammation in pimples and help soak up some extra bacteria in them. i used them today cuz i too had a break out right before school and ive already noticed a difference! the pimple patches im using are the clearasil overnight spot patches you can find them at target. they are by all the beauty and face masks. hope this can help. :) (ps the patches are 9.99) but really work

while our nation gears up for a midnight parliamentary session to launch the highly hyped GST, here I am being productive and watching a Dr. dray vlog.. gst or no gst oily skin and acne are here to stay and must be tackled!! I currently use the Neutrogena BHA like you and am loving it.. have used clean and clear advanced acne control 2% salicylic acid during my college days and loved it. have also used India's popular foaming face wash called "saslic-ds" with 2% SA and had some good results. lovely video doc!!

Hi Dr.Dray! I appreciate your content very much It's so nice to find a channel that offers scientific explanations for skincare so I just had to subscribe :) I just have a quick question tha I hope you could answer: What is the minimum amount of salicylic acid in the face wash that still allows good results? Thanks!

Thanks! 2% is what is in most acne medicated washes, but lower is effective for light exfoliation

the clear pore mask, it burned my skin. I wouldn't recommend. but everyone is different so just be mindful it can do that. (keep in mind it did it to me the 3rd time I used it and the uses were weeks or months apart, and it was not expired or anything. so I wouldn't fully trust it honestly)

@kellyleigh63935 жыл бұрын
@@jazznataz this might just be me, but when I first started, I was leaving it on my face for 4 or 5 minutes or so before rinsing off, and immediately started getting the dreaded little red bumps on my forehead (most sensitive skin on my face and where my pores are the worst) so I actually started rubbing it in in circular motions, rinsing off after maybe 2 mins of using my fingers, then going in with my Olay face wash right after and making sure to wash and rinse well. My pores have gotten SOOOOO much better as time goes on and the red bumps cleared up almost immediately. Thought I'd share in case you start to have a reaction like that too. =) Good luck!

Could I use the Cerave Renewing SA Cleanser as my everyday morning cleanser? Thank you for your great tips!
@Shayri017 жыл бұрын
I watch Liah Yoo, and she talked about dehydrated skin vs oily skin. So I tried layering my toner 7 times (the 7 skin method) and continued to hydrate & moisturize it heavily, and I'm sure I don't have dehydrated skin anymore. I tried putting jojoba/Grape seed oil on my face immediately after toning, and layering some light products, and I definitely noticed a difference in my oiliness. Right now, my face is behaving pretty normally, but I forever despair of the acne marks & aftermath 🙂

Dr Dray Not really, I guess I make it sound more intense then it is. I'm so tired of my acne that I've been soaking up knowledge, and I tend to spout it off like everyday conversation. 😅 But yes, I'd love to see a video where you talk about things that can lighten the acne marks (you talked about PIH , but I don't really understand the difference between PIH & PIE)

Can you do a salicylic acid versus benzo peroxide video? Like the benefits which one is better which one is for which skin type etc.
@samriviera62995 жыл бұрын
I hate benzoyl peroxide because it has a bleaching effect. If it touches your clothes, your clothes will get ruined. Same thing for your bedding.
@jasonpeng57985 жыл бұрын
Acne is caused by the overproduction of oil and bacteria growing in that oil, causing inflammations. benzo peroxide = potent bacteria killer and organic molecule breakdown; basically, it kills and breaks down any organic molecular structures, including a lot of oils, some dead skin cells, and basically all bacteria. salicyclic acid is a BHA, meaning it's an organic acid. Acids react with oils and turn it into water (because oil is a very basic organic molecule) and dissolves the bonds between your skin cells, causing your skin to shed/peel. They do different things, and honestly I'd say use them together. My brother is a dermatologist and he's been telling me to use them together since forever, since SA actually helps BP penetrate deeper. I use a SA cleanser and follow it up with epiduo, which has 3% benzoyl peroxide, and it really helps.

what are your thoughts on "fixing the moisture barrier"? I keep seeing this concept being mentioned in various blogs. it basically attributes common skin concerns ( like acne, oily skin, "dehydrated" skin, etc) to a broken moisture barrier. Can you expand more on this topic? thank you so much for your videos. I am learning so much. have a nice day!

I avoided face moisturizer for a long time but my skin truly did improve after I read a blog about oily skin last fall. I use more than one type of cleanser (I used the first oil-free cleanser you showed when I was a teenager), my foundation has salicylic acid in it, I use one gentle exfoliator and a chemical exfoliator a few times a week. Lastly, I moisturize twice a day after I put on my rose petal witch hazel toner.

Hey Dr. Dray! Thanks for all of your videos! Two questions: 1) what do you think about the Jack Black spf 25 lip balm sold at Sephora? I liked the fact that it goes on clear and is moisturizing, but I wanted to know if you think it's just as effective as the other brands you recommend? 2) what are your thoughts on eyelash growth serums? I am trying out one I made from castor oil, vitamin e oil, and jojoba oil and am seeing a bit of results but I'm not sure if it's just me seeing things or it's actually working lol. Please let me know what you think!

Age 15 here and i want to start a skin care routine, my face is so oily i dont know what kind of product should i use first coz i dont and i didn't use some of them and i idk how...
@raluci5 жыл бұрын
You should start with a simple routine: AM - Cleanser - try the CeraVe foaming cleanser - Niacinamide 10% from The Ordinary (start mixing it with a moisturizer for the first 2 weeks so your skin gets used to it - you might experience purging, but after that your skin will start getting better) - SPF (I personally use Nivea Sun Water Gel SPF 50 - very lightweight, it’s a K product, very good and well-loved by many people. You can find it on Amazon) PM (do a double cleanse) - micellar water or cleansing balm/oil - cleanser - moisturizer After 4-6 weeks, I recommend introducing an acid in the evening - Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2% (this one also contains hyaluronic acid) before the moisturizer. Start using it 2 times a week, then increasing the number of uses per week gradually. Again, might cause purging but the benefits are great.
