Thank you so much for your videos! I'm enjoying them so much! I've been in such a battle with my skin over the years, but hearing your tips, all my mistakes make sense now! I've been on differin for some time but I was not told by my dermatologist that it should NOT be used in conjunction with salicyc acid. The result was my skin burned like hell and I looked like a tomato. So I started hating differin for the wrong reasons, apparently. So I stop going to my dermatologist because of the same reason, I was not seeing results and it was expensive to keep it up. So my routine was to use heavy moisturizer which made my skin oily and full of acne. Then I started using scrubbing products to get rid of oil, thinking the more I scrub, the more the oil would go away. And guess what, I was getting more oil! I would watch some videos and nothing I saw worked until I found you! Finally someone who knows what she is talking about and not giving instructions based sole their opinion, no scientific evidence behind. This week, I've started practicing some of your basic routines and I noticed the difference! My skin is brighter and smoother, no blemishes or evident acnes. OMG, I wish I had found you before all the mess I did to my skin! Now I'm just buying everything you are showing on your videos, so you should get some credits for that! ☺️ Thank you for saving so many skins around the world, you should be very proud or yourself. I've also tried to find the dermatology office to become your patient, but I'm on the west side of H-town, so I think you are a little far from me. But If you happen to open to be in this side, please post and I will certainly come see you! (Not a stocker, just a super thankful "future" patient). 😃 Love your sunscreen &I subscribe (done and done)

hi doc.. I'm so sorry to pester you with so many messages on my skin condition, but I had to tell you this. I had gone to a doctor here, he told me my rough, bumpy, sandpapery skin was just over exfoliated due to my 2% sa am and 0.025% tretinoin pm. he asked me to use a good moisturizer and lay off both sa and tretinoin for a week and then use only the tretinoin with a very gentle face wash. thank you so much for patiently hearing me out as I crib about my skin!! hope you had a lovely long weekend..

Angela Chang - hello, yes I have some acne and clogged pores. I'm no doctor, but from my experience (on a retinoid since 1 year) I can tell you that a purge is common for upto 2 months if you use any retinoid.. and if the sa wash is not over-drying or irritating your skin, there's no reason to stop using it. hope this helps, have a good day!

(I'm finally trying them again after 7-8 years) If that doesn't tell you how much you're getting through to people, this comment should😜. You really are a valuable resource of help and information in a sea of misleading cosmetics. Thank you Dr. Dray. I didn't know that salicylic acid cleansers should not be paired with Tretinoin, so now I'm glad that my skincare worked out luckily, because when I started using a salicylic acid containing cleanser I didn't use Tretinoin, by complete chance! & when I was using Tretinoin I used clean & clear face wash beforehand, so this has been a relief & shock in one.

My mom is using just a plane cheap cream with glycerin to remove her makeup and then rinse all off (I think for last 40 years - by her words :) Her skin is sooo nice, smooth, so I think that way of cleansing is great... One interesting thing about my skin is that it is oily and really prone to redness after using some harsh cleansers (especially salicylic acid - so I don't use that), but when I put my tretinoin cream it doesn't irritate my skin (I don't know how)... After that I use niacinamid serum form the ordinary, after that argireline serum around my eyes and forehead and on top of that just a basic moisturizer :)

I'm the same way like you. Retinoic acid gets along well with my skin, but even 1% salicylic acid irritates my skin. Our skin may be overly sensitized towards salicylates. Some people, on the other hand, can't even tolerate retinol. Everyone's skin is a bit different.

Dear god, a script of tretinoin costs $80 in the US? I just got pissed my insurance denied it cause my PCP tried to prescribe it after years of me living abroad and getting it for $2 to $3 a tube. Thanks for the price, I will just cross the border to Mexico if I can’t move back abroad in the next year, that’s outrageous for a tube that costs hardly anything in Turkey and Vietnam! The US healthcare system is such bs. Wish pregnant women here could take it upon themselves to ask their freaking pharmacists what they can or can’t use, but between our sue-happy idiot culture and lack of universal healthcare, we are destined to pay way too much for crap that’s been around for years. I’m so disgusted and angry reading this. $80????? For an old medication? 🤢

How do you feel about menthol in skin products like the clear pore mask? I've heard it could be irritating and was just curious. Thanks!!!

Do you have advice for approaching these products (particularly the cleanser, mask, and moisturiser) for someone with seb dermatitis? I haven't seen you cover seb derm on this channel, so I'm unsure if this a skin disease you're able to give advice on. Otherwise thank you for the clarity of information in your videos! They are really helpful for someone new to skin care like myself!

I would like to do a seb derm video in the future for sure. I am VERY familiar with this skin disease, so i think a video would be helpful in the future. I would hold off on oils, as the yeast I mention here is the culprit in seborrheic dermatitis.

I just found these videos and I truly appreciate the fact that you recommend affordable products (broke college students here 🙋♀️) u have very oily skin, would you use the benzoyl mask with products like The Ordinary Lactic acid?

Dr. Dray, what is your opinion of sunscreens that also have infrared waves in them? What is it for one thing and how or why would you want it in your sunscreen? Thank you.

Hi Doc, I’ve seen some conflicting information about this, but do you know what the relationship is between tretinoin and BP? I used to use differin and persagel together but was recently upgraded to tret. Since it is is less chemically stable, is it still safe with BP? Hope you had a nice holiday
@DrDrayzday7 жыл бұрын
As i say here...retin A (tretinoin) and benzoyl peroxide should not be applied simultaneously, however, adapalene (differin) and benzoyl peroxide can be applied simultaneously

This is a bit off topic, but I was wondering about your opinion on retinoids and other products that increase cell turnover and their relation to telomere length. Do they shorten telomere length, thus being bad to use long term? I haven't seen this addressed anywhere else on youtube and thought you might be a good source for reliable info on this subject. Loving your videos, Dr. Dray!

What are your thoughts on dimethicones? I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews, including that it traps everything under it-including bacteria, sebum, and impurities-which could lead to increased breakouts and blackheads. Also, that the coating action prevents the skin from performing its normal activities-like sweating, temperature regulating, sloughing off dead skin cells, etc. I don't use them in my hair and I've noticed an increase in moisture retention. Love your channel :) Thanks for all the help!

is ponds cold cream a good one to remove the makeup and sunscreen? i dont have any cleansing oil at the moment so was gonna try an use something i have around the house and i have a jar of ponds also is there a comparable cleansing oil in the store like the one your using ?
@DrDrayzday7 жыл бұрын
I have never used it myself, but it is actually mentioned in one sentence in a major dermatology textbook as a gentle make up remover....so on that grounds alone I would say it is worth a shot (make up and facial cleansing is actually not emphasized in our training at all)
@joannaledbetter65097 жыл бұрын
tfrazee1....Read your comment and I have use PONDS makeup remover/cold cream for about 40 years (I'm 68). I want my makeup off my face before I cleanse. I have purchased and enjoyed using the CERAVE cleanser that Dr Dray recommended, as well as the CERAVE moisturizing lotion. Really nice products. That's my 2 cents on PONDS.

Dr. Dray, thank you so much for your very informative regimen to use for oily skin. I am starting to use the Neutrogena hydro boost, whereas I was previously against any type of moisturizer. I would make a fortune if I could bottle and sell the oil from my face. Cheers, and Happy New Year!

Hi Dr.Dray, I've seen other articles say that it's best to only wash your face with a cleanser once a day. What do you think?
@DrDrayzday7 жыл бұрын
That is good too. I wash my face in the AM with a sal acid face wash mostly because that is my sal acid treatment step, rather than actual cleansing. No need to wash face in AM, imo...but not a hard a fast rule

Hey Dr. Dray! I have a question. Until watching this video, I didn't realize that salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide could not be used together. I don't use them together in cleanser form, however, I use the panoxyl cleanser several times a week (for my acne and oily skin) and have recently started using Neutrogenas SkinClearing line (foundation & powder) , which has salicylic acid in it. Do I need to stop using these together? What do you suggest? Thanks! I love watching your videos! So informative and helpful.

I’ve noticed that the popular Ponds Cold Cream has mineral oil.. could this be problematic for someone with oily skin or just in general? It’s one of the only cleansing balms offered at the drugstore so I’m considering it for this method. Love your videos!!
