Lichess:
We set a new record in our second Titled Arena, with 145 titled players playing 3448 games!
Carlsen seemingly has an infinite number of pseudonyms to pick from. This time around, he eschewed “DannyTheDonkey” in favor of “DrDrunkenstein.” Under this pseudonym, Carlsen completely dominated the field, finishing a staggering 67 points ahead of bullet monster GM Andrew Tang, who finished second. Completing the podium we see another lichess bullet regular, IM opperwezen finishing in third place. If you missed the tournament, you can watch ChessNetwork's coverage on Twitch (tournament starting on 1:05:15).

I want to learn why that move is very flawed. Thank you.
@deepdive1338
@deepdive1338 5 жыл бұрын
@@jackdaniels1749 the problem is that in both of these scenarios you end giving up a queen for a 2 minor pieces(knight and bishop) plus a paw but if you play the move you suggested end you lose castleling rights(very important in fast games) and your king is going to be stuck and in the middle and can easily get mated.

Tang is pretty cool, and has an amazing brain. It surprises me that he plays that level not being a full time chess pro... Despite losing to the world champion, he played some amazing games, beating Caruana and other GMs. Carlsen is on a league of his own. Definitely a world champion for history books. That actually seems like a good move. You obviously can't recapture, but I thought maybe something like ...Rxd4 as a response and you might lose an exchange, but Nf7+ seems like a strong follow up and then you can just recapture the Rook on d4. Doesn't seem like the type of move that Magnus would miss, even with little time on the clock, so I dunno.

This is a heck of an interesting example match for showing how the point value of the various pieces is highly relative to their position in time (move number) and space. The Queen sacrifice clearly pays off when White is up a Rook and a Bishop plus Pawns (to be determined) but also having lured the Black King to the dark corner... he can have his Queen (while she'll do him any good.) Thanks for the vid!

I know this is very late, but on 6:16 why did carlsen not eat the bishop using knight? You cannot capture the knight because it will lead to checkmate with capture Rh6
@trafficfunnlr3353
@trafficfunnlr3353 6 жыл бұрын
Another killer move that Carlsen missed and you skipped over was after 1. Nd6xe4, Re8, and instead of playing 2. F3 playing 2. Nxg5, and if fxg5, then 3. Rxh6 checkmate! Alternatively Black could play Rxd4, 3. Nf7+, Kh7 4. Rxd4 with a full rook up.

What are you talking about? There is no gh4 move possible in this sequence and Nf7+ is a check, so the king has to move, so a pawn counter move doesn't make any sense anyway.

When Carlsen played "f3" (at 6:16 in the video) there were a far more stronger move instead of this, Kxg5. Black cant capture the Knight because of the pins. If he takes with the f6 pawn then Rxh6 is mate. The only chance if he takes the d4 bishop with his Rook, but then Kf7 check is winning material, white is winning.

I think Carlsen missed a checkmate earlier when Black played rook from f8 to e8 attacking his knight on e4, Carlsen played f3 to protect the knight. What if he had taken the bishop on g5 with his knight instead? h6 is pinned, so only way to recapture is via f6 takes g5 and then rook from h1 takes h6 checkmate because white bishop controls g8 and g7 pawn is pinned by dark bishop. Anything I'm missing here? This is the position that is at 6:16 in the video

@@ResurrectingHobo I think black can still win an exchange by ignoring c6 and capturing the rook. I’ll have to check the engine analysis to know for sure however. Edit: I just ran the position through Chessify and after Qa4 Bd7 c6, bxc6 is the top move. Although white can save the rook, the engine says black is completely winning.

I am confused.. in minute 2:45 or 11:24 can't you just go: King d2 with white, Knight kills the pawn on f2 and you check the enemy King with Queen a4?. Black could offer a Queen trade that leads into the escape of the rook from white. If black moves his King the rook could move away after this too? That's why I can't really understand why capturing the Knight on d3 is the best move. :/

The quote on the top is really relatable to me In my school i always win in the tournaments in chess including the one where all the nearby school will play against each other.. Because of that other students dont wanna with me anymore because they say they will just lose and it becomes really annoying thinking that they dont wanna play with just cuz im stronger against them.. Its really boring watching them play chess while im the one writing the moves they do..

What's wrong with g2, kicking the Q, instead of Nd6? (Q cannot take f3 because NxB harasses the Q immediately. So, Q has to retreat to c7 or b8 as there are no other squares available) , then followed by NxB. If f6xN, then Rxh6++.

Man, I have followed Carlson sins he was 13 years old, and I love the bold way he plays. I wish I had a Chess brain like that, but it has a LOT to say if you learn Chess as a kid or as 35 years old, the younger started player will usually be far ahead. I'm just a 1200 rating player, and I see how many blunders I make when compared to proff games and players. Kasparov is SO lightning fast in fast Chess, he moves so fast, so when I start to think about what to move, he already has moved. I have a hard time understand this lvl of understanding Chess and how to win so fast, even you sacrifice your Queen because you have a plan. As a low rated Chess player, I keep on to my Queen until such time if make sense to me to exchange, because if I lose my Queen to fast I simply have a lower chance to win, as it really takes a good player to Checkmate with Knights and/or Bishop. But training minimum an hour a day and do fast Battles and other training, have raised my rating with 200 within a month. Thx for really cool videos.

Since Hou didn't win here game you should do another Drunkenstein game from the titled tourney. Specifically the one that comes at the 2:05:10 in the Chess Network stream. Magnus' opponent had a possible perpetual check that was one tempo away (I'm going off of Jerry's commentary here) from possible mate that Magnus quickly turned around, creating a forced mate resignation that had Jerry speechless.
