Dreadlock Holiday (Cover) - 10cc - Rumpus Machine - Live Classic Rock & Originals Band

Dreadlock Holiday by 10cc is was a hit song off their 1978 album called 'Bloody Tourists'. The song tells the true story of two of the band members who encountered some excitement while on holiday in Barbados. We love this song because of it's off beat reggae groove and energy. No guitar solos though !? But that's ok.. it's really about the groove and this one is all about Hannah and Ashley who drive our rhythm section so well. Go the bass and drums!! We love you.
Rumpus Machine is a sibling rock band playing live classic rock music and original songs! We are brothers and sisters from Auckland in New Zealand. We like to learn and perform new songs together and play modern music and classic rock songs. We also write our own original songs too and publish to Spotify & Apple Music etc. We like to play live if we can - but also enjoying sharing our music online. We like to learn the new songs and polish them up as much as we can before we decide they’re ready to video and share. It’s gives us something to aim for and it’s also good to have for the future.
Ashley on drums and Hannah on the bass are twins and 12 years old. Matthew on guitar is 14 and Daniel on guitar and lead vocals is 15. Thanks for watching!

I can identify with this song. Many years ago I had a solo holiday in Negril Jamaica. Ganga everywhere, powerful stuff I am told, not brave enough to try it tho. Found Jamaicans quite aggressive, not in a violent way, they just have an 'in your face' vocalized style. Didn't find it relaxing. Rented a scooter to spend a day cruising the extremely beautiful surrounding mountain roads, greenest forests I have ever seen. Every time I stopped for a rest or gas up someone would come out of the woodwork to either bum money or a drink or try and sell me drugs. This was in the wilderness hours out of town LOL. Even when friendly I found them forceful somehow.

Yes I think it comes from people living in poverty and the sense of desperation that it creates in them.. we’ve seen the same kind of thing in other countries too.. the tourist has the dollars..

Friendly people, just a huge cultural difference (even friends talking together look like they are going to fight, then they all break out laughing) that shook me up a bit.

I should add, after watching/listening to this half a dozen times I am really impressed, especially nice to see the girls so involved! I was young when visiting Negril, have travelled extensively since, my last was 9 years living in Chiang Mai Thailand. I have learned to watch and listen before acting when in different cultures. Reggae is very much a laid-back chilled-out genre of music, not meant to be played at a fast pace. If you can ease the chorus pace back a bit to the 10cc pace and get that laid-back vibe going, you're really going to go places! Keep up the great work!
