You know you’re obsessed with bikes when you come home from a shift as a mechanic at a bike shop, and start watching dream build videos on KZbin. Doing custom builds is my favourite part of the job. I love the process of taking it from a bare frame to a complete bike, and seeing the customer’s reaction when they see their dream bike built up for the first time. Never gets old.

Did you notice when old mate put his drive side crank on? I always, without fail, check each of the four crank position that a square taper BB offers. It is a pain to remove the crank those few times, but very much worth it in my opinion. The reason for this is that tolerances of BB’s and cranks aren’t always perfect. I mount the crank at each position and each time spin the crank and check from the rear for side to side wobble of the chain ring, (or chain ring arms) as one of the positions will be noticeably straighter than the rest. This can help get your shifting nice and crispy on a geared bike, and help with chain wear and potential dropped chains on a track/fixed/single speed. I know it’s a little pedantic, but I love perfection, and this is so very near to it. It’s an absolutely beautiful bike👌

These mid 90s Canondales are so pretty. They are just the archetype of what a bike looks like. No extras, no flourish, no gimmick. Just what is needed and that´s enough. And because of that these tings are so hard to get and if you find one, they are pricy.

What’s wrong with fixed ⚙️?
@ihxE.4 жыл бұрын
@@JK-qj9qp No point to limit yourself to a single gear, if you do want a workout or whatever one can just simply leave it in a gear you want until your workout is over. Yes the bike looks clean and simple, but I see it as the equivalent of having a 6 speed car, and just using one gear to do everything. I guess I would only own a fixed gear bike if I were doing track cycling.
@hidde504 жыл бұрын
@@ihxE. I ride alot of fixedgear and for me its the feeling of being connected with the bike. Its really a 1 to 1 the bike does something and likewise the other way around. And you get the feeling of foating when you're at the exact right speeds that i dont get on my roadbike.

Well, you could cut and face the headset and bottom bracket to make sure they are perfect, then loose ball those bearings and actually torque bolts instead of just winging it.
@fedor56644 жыл бұрын
Chris Daigle what's the point of torquing every single bolt? I work on cars and exhaust clamps probably have a torque rating but to much time is wasted by searching that up and then setting the torque wrench so tight it tight, wheel nuts/bolts is a totally different story because if a wheel falls of your not gonna have a fun time and wheel bolt torque specs are easier to find than a exhaust clamp
@chrisdaigle54104 жыл бұрын
@@fedor5664 The lighter components on the bike are VERY sensitive to torque and expensive parts can break, costing a lot of money. Even cheap parts can easily get damaged by over torque of bolts.
