Just an idea build a mesh cover to go over the nesting to protect the eggs and contain the babies when they hatch. We use 2x2 lumber to frame a box structure and cover it in 1/2 inch hardware mesh. We do this to cover endangered turtle nests when I am in Canada. That way you don't need to disturb the nest at all with piece of mind they won't get eaten after they hatch.

I have no doubts Fred is up there somewhere with a big smile, he left his animals in the right loving and protecting hands. And I said it before, but I just love how the backyard has evolved from Sulcata farmland and the big pond to all of this over the past couple of years. Seing in turn into a full-blown jungle will be insane. Thanks for all the hard work and insights Kenan, it's always a joy to tune into your videos and seeing what's going on at the camp!

Cher used to be so laid back, it's like her Mama switch was turned on! I think that you should turn part of your property into native wildflower meadow. Bees, butterflies, and other native wildlife are in desperate need of sanctuary spaces where they can survive.
@The_Crucible7144 ай бұрын
There are several alternatives people use for no-mow lawns other than grass that are native species, clover is just one. They handle heavy foot traffic well and provide food & shelter for indigenous (some endangered) species. Also, gardens for pollinators are the trend; native plants like orange milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa), butterfly bush (Buddleja davidii), purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) help the endangered Monarch butterfly & the honey bee whose populations are being threatened.

I would advise you put up a tarp of some sort against the fence while you have contruction 🏗️🚧 and high traffic to help minimize the stress level of any "threat" while she attempt to protect her nest. You want your BBC mama to feel safe and not feel threatened to minimize her stress level otherwise she may just abandoned the nest to save herself if she feels highly threatened by all the machinery and high traffic of constructions during her nesting period. In the wild she would able to protect and scare off any predators that lurks near her babies. If she feels like she can't protect the nesting area and the threat never goes away she will abandon the area and save her self if she feels she's she unable to protect no longer.
