Why do I get the feeling that the few people talking smack about Portnoy playing Mangini’s parts have never held a pair of drumsticks? 😂
@Orbital.Gate.Resuscitate2 сағат бұрын
Exactly this I've been a drummer for most of my life, Portnoy was the reason I started playing, and ill be the first to say that Portnoy is NOT as good as Mangini on a technical level. That said, portnoy's playing style is (in my opinion) such an integral part of dream theater's sound, and portnoy's take on this song makes it sound like it could've been a portnoy era dream theater song easily. He absolutely killed it, and I'm GLAD he played it his own way.
@scylla43422 сағат бұрын
It’s kinda obvious since the beginning lmfao. Not only they never held a pair of drum sticks in their life, they’re also clueless about the band catalog before Mangini joined the band. Mangini is such a nice guy and cool dude. I simply don’t like him in the band because his playing style is just too different. But if people say Tool fans are obnoxious, Mangini fans for some reason beat them as the champion 😀

It's because you hate when someone tell the truth about your idol. Portnoy is not as Good as Mangini is.
@erdelyidomonkos3 сағат бұрын
I don't know what people expect. Portnoy is unique and Mangini is unique as well. They play each other's parts their own way. Mangini changed some parts as well, sometimes not the best way. So this is just a pure example of two individuals playing the same song on their own style and musical approach. Come on people, don't have to hate any of these gentleman.
@janzojanzo90593 сағат бұрын
Well, they jumped up on MM when they thought he "butchered" the outro of Finally Free in Breaking The Fourth Wall. I think now, MP "butchered" Barstool Warrior 😅😅
@Yuakin63 сағат бұрын
@@janzojanzo9059 improving is not butchering. With all due respect to Mangini (and considering this is a phone recording), there are many improved things here: better flow in the drum parts, no click track, real backing vocals. The ending of finally free simply didn’t have the feel with Mangini
@SokolRock3 сағат бұрын
@@janzojanzo9059 Mangini really butchered that outro and not only in "Breaking The Fourth Wall" but every tour when they played "Finally Free". And I don't care how much that nonsense he was playing was technically complicated, but it not only didn't serve the music, but broke it completely. Mangini was like an "educated fool" who had much more skills than taste and understanding of how and when to use it correctly. Something Portnoy has never had a problem with.
@DVPtainment2 сағат бұрын
@@janzojanzo9059but, for sure, isn it james that butchered his own song with his performance?
@scylla43422 сағат бұрын
@@SokolRock exactly this. Mangini is not only butchered the outro of Finally Free but basically remove all of the groove, dynamics, and instantaneousity of the music itself. I believe the whole band felt it and started to scratch their head then decided to jam again with Portnoy for a chance of comparison, which leads to the new LTE record and Petrucci solo tour with Portnoy

Did I expect Portnoy to play Mangini's part exactly? No Did I expect him to play it close to the original with his own flare? Yes I also expected at least 4 Mangini songs in this set. They honestly only played this song, because This Is The Life hardly counts as a drum song.
@SokolRockСағат бұрын
"because This Is The Life hardly counts as a drum song." You make it sound like Mike Portnoy is the "new guy" who needs to prove himself as a drummer. Are you out of your mind? Besides, this is an anniversary tour (at least this part) where preference is given to older songs, including those that they haven't performed for a long time. In addition, since Mike is making set lists, they will be constantly changing and maybe you will still hear what you want.
