Myung is just too fucking great. I wish he was as big a presence on the newer albums as he used to be. Especially the early days. Regardless, he's my all time favorite bassist and always will be.

As a 22 year vet of the bass guitar, JMX's techniques have helped me grow more into the instrument. He is so underrated in the bass world, and I can't understand why? What he's been able to do on the bass most accomplished players could never do! He is a master, he brilliant, and he IS A LEGEND!!!!

I actually just searched for a rhythm section mix, because I can never hear whatever he's playing. That's why he's underrated. Nobody can hear him.

@@WalrusDoom he plays too low in the register. Playing a 6 string means people with low quality headphones won’t be able to hear the low notes you hit.

1. Distortion doesn't hide your laziness as a player, in fact it can make it more apparent. 2. The signal here is definitely distorted, but not massively. Just sounds like an overdriven amp or a mild overdrive.
@jd08792 жыл бұрын
Stupidest comment ever, distortion definitely hides sloppiness and doesn’t make it more apparent. That’s literally the definition of the word distortion

What I'm saying is that JM is still an absolutely stellar bassist, but there is no point in making the extra effort to make your bass line perfect and precise if you get buried in the mix to a point where you're just more of a presence. The new song Along for the Ride however, puts Myung in the forefront of the mix, and his playing is really tight and precise. His bassline under the keyboard solo is so awesome, that it should have been the solo. Seriously, check it out if you haven't already.

If his bass distortion covers his laziness how come you can still hear it in the isolated tracks these days?
