This is a 4K upscale of Dream Theater's performance of Pull Me Under live in Japan from 1993. The video was ripped in SD from the official DVD and then upscaled with the power of AI to 4K.

LaBrie's vocal is so powerful here

Yeah so young, and without food poisoning, i feel so bad for him fr, hes still a good vocalist, but its a fact he doesnt sing as he used to, hes still awesome
@hardcard254 Жыл бұрын
@@Fehrex Please, don't parrot the food poisoning nonsense. Just listen to the way Labrie used to punish his chords in live concerts, pushing them to the limit (and then some), this video is a good example of it. I don't know about you, but I can hear his chords burning and failing during the chorus (and some other parts), in this very video. Can't go around treating your chords like that, year after year, tour after tour. Labrie's voice range and characteristics were never a good fit for DT... he simply didn't have the voice for that kind of band. In his youth, Labrie could still manage (by putting his voice under unsustainable strain, "eroding" it), but as the years of touring passed, his voice eventually gave up. There are plenty of people out there who have suitable voices for DT, with wider vocal range, projection and the ability to reach high notes without having to punish their chords so much. This kind of singing comes more naturally to them. As for Labrie's current singing, it's a mess, he should honorably retire from DT.

@@hardcard254 Its the technique also, like its not only the food poisoning ik, i think its a fact his range was simply amazing but the raspy voice i think it also did hurt him permanently, like just why, he has a better technique now but his range its not as good as it used to it, i dont think he was barely getting to those notes, its just the pointless raspy voice
@Fehrex Жыл бұрын
@@hardcard254 Yeah im agree, i think he could be replaced but it would be hard tho, like people its just so used to James Labrie and its such a personality, also his voice is unique, but some people could just sing better, and i would say, welp but he helps a lot with the writing of the song, but actually a lot of the lyrics of the song are written by others like Kevin Moore in this song, and as i know the melody is written by other band members
@williamreynolds3487 Жыл бұрын
@@hardcard254he didn’t just go from sounding amazing at the end of 1994 to sounding like shit in 1995 from “bad technique.” Something drastic happened, and that something was rupturing his vocal cords.

Untouchable??? That’s a HUGE overstatement! There many vocalists on par or better! Most of it boils down to your personal taste.

His true voice (without that grungy effect he is doing on purpose) is is is truly truly amazing

I still dont get why he chosed to strain his voice in such a stupid way, in the estudio versión his voice is cristal clear, people blame food poisoning but that unhealthy singin was going to slowly take a toll on his voice eventually

Listening to Kevin's keyboard solos at 2:37-2:56 and 5:35-6:09 reminds me why I like him better than Jordan. Yes, Jordan is a better technical player but Kevin's a better songwriter/composer and there's something about his approach that had more feeling and blended better.

I so agree. I wish so bad Mike Portnoy and Kevin Moore were in Dream Theater again.

His lyrics were poetry. Most of Dream theater’s lyrics after he left were pretty meh. Always such incredible musicianship and songwriting otherwise.

Jordan ruined this band. Soulless keyboard player which then influenced petrucci to get more complex. Back then it was a good mix of complex and melody. Now its just all endless scales and generic metal power chords. Portnoy is back in the band. I wish they would move on from jordan and get back to this type of shit. And just have labrie sing everything lower.

As a huge fan of Jordan Rudess and Mike Mangini and their albums w DT, there is just something about early DT (Images and Words, Awake, A Change of Seasons, and to an extent Falling Into Infinity and Scenes) that is so fucking satisfying. And Awake is my absolute favourite album of all time I love absolutely all eras of DT, even the era w Mike Mangini (underrated era it needs more love) but damn the Images and Words to A Change of Seasons era was something else

... (Provavelmente a melhor performance ao vivo do LaBrie, olha a voz dele!!! Nem no álbum ele cantou tão agressivamente assim)
