They should have also won a Grammy for Distance Over Time. That was also an incredible album.

you should also check out Awaken The Master (John uses his 8 string) and Transcending Time (Very heavily rush sounding song, total prog rock greatness)!

I've always thought of dream theater as a journey and inspiration toward life. Since 90.

It is an amazing album just saw them on March 21 and they played this song and it was all a phenomenal show, it was a night to remember. I have their entire collection as I am a huge fan of prog-rock, so glad to see them stay with their roots and will continue to do so. I don't know what this Fazi dude is talking about because James has always sounded amazing throughout the years. To each their own I guess right! Here is a link I posted of the song The Alien kzbin.info/www/bejne/hl6op5SDbZl4iM0

I still like DT although I prefered them with Mike Portnoy. Talking of which, have you checked out his band Sons Of Apollo with the previous DT keyboard player Derek Sherinian? [edited AJ]

I've gotta react to lots more DT because I want to just dive in and buy some albums for myself. Thanks for the suggestions, stay tuned...

Sherinian wasn’t the original keyboardist, that was Kevin Moore

love your reactions! yeah the drums on this album were masterfully recorded. the whole thing was done impeccably. however, musically, at least for me, this album felt kinda stale (i do like the invisible monster a lot though). yes, all the dream theater elements are there, but maybe that's the thing - they just seem to have reused old musical ideas. even as a new and a young fan (so i'm not just making boomer nostalgia talking points) i was expecting something a bit different. recently i discovered 6 degrees of inner turbulence and i was amazed, while the view left me very indifferent. i guess this sounds new and exciting to you, but when you've listened to one band almost exclusively for almost 2 years (they're my absolute favorite) you get used to certain musical ideas. just sharing my thoughts. maybe a few years down this becomes my favorite, but currently, falling into infinity, distance over time and this are my least favorite of their albums - which isn't to say that i don't like them at all.

yes, they are too new to me to have broader insight like you have. That'll come with time I'm sure

This is a phenomenal album but I miss the raw power and intensity from the Train of Thought album.
