Jordan Rudess is a master keyboardist/pianist. He accepted to Juliard at 9 years old. Dream Theater are the masters of music. My absolute favorite band.

Welcome to Dream Theater. The most incredible band on earth. Bar none. They are amazing to say the least. Realize everything is planned, not just slapped together. Incredible.

I've been playing the guitar for 35+ years, and it took a LONG time just to figure out the first several bars of this song, it's a tongue twister. Brilliant prog-metal-musicianship.

originally, the Keyboard solo Jordan does at the end used an instrument called a Haken Continuum, which is a rectangular pad surface that plays like a keyboard but you can slide your fingers around. The intro of Octavarium and the Solo in A Nightmare to Remember heavily used the Continuum and it sounds pretty insane

I enjoy your reactions to music because you know music. You recognize the skills it takes to perform music like this live or studio. I'm a musician of 53 years and have been a DT fan since Images and Words. I HIGHLY recommend looking at Symphony X. They once had distribution through Metal Blade Records when I was signed with them. That's where I first heard of them. Highly impressed. Check out The Odyssey by Symphony X.

This toxic fanbase needs to get over the fact that Portnoy's long gone and most likely never coming back. Dream Theater is one of the best bands around and I am tired of hearing the attacks on Mangini, one of the greatest technical drummers of this generation just because daddy Portnoy decided to be a punk and try to join up with Avenged Sevenfold.

I immediately remember why I never put this concert DVD in my player again. The mix is ALL guitars and while they are obviously awesome, the mix in a band like DT should feature much more keys. Hell, even the key solos were way too low in the mix.

You should have reacted the Chaos in Motion 2007 live version of this song. Mike Portnoy's drum fills are much better than Mangini's.
@bconxept2 жыл бұрын
That's subjective and I personally disagree. I feel they're equal but different. I will say that the quality of Portnoy's drum sound is better but that has nothing to do with the artist's talent in itself.

I have a problem with this video being chosen for the review. Dark Eternal Night was part of the series of songs written by Mike Portnoy in regard to the 12 step process. Having Mangini on this review is a slap in the face to what MP has gone through. This is not a Mike vs Mike thing. You really have to do your homework on the songwriters. There may be a wildcard like this.
@scottweber19752 жыл бұрын
If this was part of Potnoy's 12 step suite, I'd agree. But this isn't.
