@bytamador9 жыл бұрын
I see that these "ROBOTIC" words are all over the place... This is precision you guys, the concept of having the futuristic feel is absolutely prominent and the drums are enforcing and accentuating each note. Personally speaking, well done Mr. Mangini, finally you gave Dream Theater more than just a drummer replacement. You are a genius and teleported the band to another sound dimension which to many and myself find it more mature, elaborate and detailed.
@j.p.60239 жыл бұрын

@GiovanniLogrono9 жыл бұрын
+Giuseppe Passoni "futuristic" feel... music made by robots? That is one of the main themes of this new album. In whatever time the story takes place, music is made by machines, not humans, so perhaps they were trying to reflect that in this song? Too early to tell.

@Sleepwokkr9 жыл бұрын
So...seriously people? Half the comments here are nit picking the tonality of the drums, and already comparing it to past albums. From 1 song...out for 1 day...and we already compare it to entire past albums? Sorry, thats just stupid. You annoying "fans" are completely missing the point of the awesomeness of Dream Theater and you need to just stop it. I've been a fan of DT since 1993 and I've yet to hear anything that sucks. Are some better than others?...of course, but suck?....I think not. You know what the biggest problem with DT fans is? We're spoiled rotten. Plain and simple. We live in a time of such amazing musicianship that we can't see musical beauty for what it is. Listen again and be reminded how amazing these guys are. Then ask yourself; Can I imagine/create this song like they did? Can I arange everything as good as they do? Can I play as well as they do? Can I do better? If the answer to any of those is no.....then shut up.
@imanalien64619 жыл бұрын

What amazes me about this track is that I can hear elements from every stage of their career and from every album. I am super excited about this album. I'm even more amazed they managed to write a song under 5 minutes. Isn't that in and of itself cause for celebration and rejoicing? Those who scoff at the snare sound, I like it better than on Dream Theater. We have to remember Richard Chycki (Rush) is a mixer/engineer here. This obviously is the sound they like for Mangini's snare. I think it sounds meaty. It's not as dark and wet as it was on Dream Theater. Personally, I prefer a tighter, crackier snare. But that's just me.

I've been listening to DT around 23 years and making music 20 years. It's always nice to hear new musical compositions from these guys that I respect a lot. However, I have to say that mixing is not the way it should be for this kind of music. There's not enough dynamics and on this track drums are not mixed right (too loud snare and too weak cymbals). Guitar solo doesn't stand out as it should, bass sounds weird and weak etc. Another thing that I don't realise about drums here is that while Mangini's playing in "real life" is super dynamic then why on earth kill all that in mixing by compressing the drum sound this much so that every hit sounds exactly the same? It's really sad that things are spoiled in mixing if you think how much effort these guys put into their music. This would be really Astonishing music to listen to if it would be mixed properly!

I have no idea, why so many of you think that there is something wrong with the vocals at 1:22. I just can't hear it :O It sounds absolutely normal to me.

I haven't cared for a DT album since Metropolis Part 2 and it doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon unfortunately. Still, let's wait for the rest...

I think they make each songs for young people recently. Jordan Rudess is a good keyboard player, but from point of view of composer, they need Kevin Moore... They can never make 'Metropolis' again
@JuntexProductions9 жыл бұрын
+solt410 why would they want to make the same album twice?
@meshuggahman32259 жыл бұрын
+solt410 you can listen to metropolis if you like, why would they want to make metropolis again?..
@ThanosNikolopoulos9 жыл бұрын
+solt410 Actually they did... A Dramatic Turn of Events was Images and Words 2010 edition... And Outcry was the new Metropolis, at least from the song structure point of view. Like Far from Heaven + Breaking All Illusions was Wait for sleep + Learning to Live etc etc... If you also want a song as influencial as Metropolis, tough luck. That is why they are called MASTERPIECES !

It's not everything in the production guys, it's mostly the way Mangini drums. His style of playing is very technical, constantly following other instruments, failing to create it's own atmosphere... HE IS a drum machine! Im not saying he's a bad drummer, he totally masters the technical part of drumming. He's perfect for a studio musician. Since he joined Dream Theater, I really miss something in their new songs.
@ingluishector9 жыл бұрын
+Sompn Brurl 100% agree, he's a soul less machine (hahaha), but the production is not better. Great player, but been a great player is not all what is required to be a great artist.
