My God....this is how I remember dream theater. Young, enthusiastic, creative, energetic and full of desire. I think Kevin Moore played a very big role in their early sound.

tbh, i never got into dream theater, because i always stumbled upon their newer material and preformances and it just never had any musical excitement and the groove for me. ...this has a groove and is actually a good song not just ''oh look at me i'm playing all the notes perfectly''. It's good, they play it like they mean it...nowadays i have the feeling that they are a cover band of themselves :/

i agree 100%.. And Mangini's sound is so artificial and compressed.. I do miss hearing real drums like in here!

Mangini used to have body and flash and life, but I think becoming a member of Dream Theater changed that unfortunately. Check any of his other stuff, like his live work with Extreme, and you'll see what I mean.

Well there is no doubt about that. I do however enjoy Kevin era DT and Jordan era DT equally. I really like the dark and more metal side of DT that showed in Train of Thought and Systematic Chaos. And at the same time i also look back to when DT actually wrote songs in major.

And let's not forget he is still every bit as good in terms of playing as back then. Dream Theater is just one of these bands that their play will never let you down. They will probably retire if they see that coming, and I'd be glad.

I guess it does compliment LaBrie's vocals though, since he can't hit the high notes as much anymore.

I think most people don't realize how much of a better singer LaBrie is today compared to this era... @@navidzaer7218 I disagree. I'm a 22 year old Canadian. Metal music besides the big american bands isn't marketed here. Found Dream Theater just before Distance over Time came out. I started with hearing Within Temptation's Faster on a video and wondered what song it was. I don't regret looking that one up. Then I started exploring and have found: Alestorm Anneke Van Giersbergen Amorphis Arch Enemy Ayreon Avantasia Blind Guardian Children of Bodom Delain Demons and Wizards Devin Townsend Dragonforce Of Course Dream Theater Eluveitie Epica Eskimo Callboy Grave Digger Halloween In Flames I knew of Iron maiden and knew a couple songs but now have really started to listen in the last couple months Jinjer Kamelot Korpiklanni Lacuna Coil Megadeth: Had heard the name for a couple years in some comments associated with Metallica but never listened till about 4 months ago Nanowar of Steel Nightwish Pendulum Polyphia Powerwolf Sabaton Storm Seeker The Gathering The Hu Seven Spires Seventh Wonder Unleash The Archers VUUR Wind Rose Wintersun That's about it. Didn't list a bunch of smaller bands. I also have listened to a bunch of electronic music recently. I've found there is good in any genre. Not trying to bash you not liking rap/hip hop. I have very few of that genre but I have found there to be good music in any genre. It just depends what you like. This is all good-natured not trying to rant or rave here. Have a good day.
