I just gotta say I really have been enjoying this Dreamcatcher Deep Dive. Am one of the many people who are hardcore rock/metal/punk fans. Initially I wasn't really into K-pop, but after seeing a metal heads reaction to Dreamcatcher it really sparked my curiosity and took me into a Dreamcatcher rabbit hole, plus there music just absolutely slaps which made it even harder to not like. Happy to see you enjoy this awesome journey that many of us InSomnias got to experience such an amazing group of talented ladies, that just kick absolute ass when they perform. 🤘🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Poison Love was especially touching because they did it shortly after they got reunited with Handong after the Coronavirus thing, she had been gone for about a year, and had to endure a 14-day quarantine when she got back. Also, it is tongue in cheek because they use to have "frightening" nick names based on a hazard and the location they are from (e.g. JiU is "Daejeon Hurricane", YooHyeon is "Incheon Fire Fist", etc.). Handong's is "Poison of Wuhan" (she chose that loooong before the virus thing, no connection). So they didn't mention it at the time of the video, because the virus was from Wuhan... it was still too fresh, but we all knew of her nickname, so this song to celebrate her return was so fitting... Plus there are many inside jokes in the video. Like Handong tripping on a bag of sweet potato to fall in DaMi's arms (DaMi loves sweet potatoes, so we can see it as a trap of some sort set up by DaMi...).

Longform videos like these are not popular on KZbin but I appreciate that you guys are doing them anyways, loved it! It was fun watching your journey through Dreamcatcher. Can't wait for part 3 As for suggestions, XG has their 1st mini album in 4 weeks, it would be great if you can go through their songs, covers and cyphers. I rarely see other content creators do a deep dive on a soloist. I would be ecstatic if you can do one on Taeyeon. She is arguably the best vocalist to come out of Kpop. She has inspired generations of idols through her incredible singing ability. Her solo career is just as good if not better than her time in Girls Generation because there is a timeless quality to her songs. I promise you won't regret it 🙏.

If you happen to see this comment, I do actually have three recommendations! 1) I Can't Get You Out of My Mind - I think Alex mentioned it being common for K-Pop groups to have some Japanese and English releases in their discography. You've gone through a bunch of their Japanese releases, but this B-side from their Dystopia: Lose Myself album is their first fully English song as far as I'm aware. 2) Propose - Since Brandon is (currently) a Dami stan, this B-side from their latest Apocalypse: From Us album is a mandatory listen IMO. I've listened through Dreamcatcher's entire discography top to bottom probably a few times at this point, and this song has my second favorite Dami rap verse, and she goes hard with her vocal verse in the ending chorus. Very aggressive and in a tone completely different from her usual non-rap voice. 3) New Days - This is actually my favorite B-side from their entire discography that comes from their Dystopia: Road to Utopia album. It's a really fun and uplifting song where Dami has composition and writing credits and probably ranks #3 on my favorite Dami rap verses list.

I was going to save my comment for the end of your DC dive like I did with TXT, but I had to drop in early to point out that I, still, cannot listen to "REASON" without crying. It's evolved from full on sobbing when the MV released to very quietly having a few tears fall, but still. It's been more than a year and dozens of listens, and _yet--_ I love DC. I'm glad they were able to be part of your Kpop journey as well. I hope you get to see them live (Brandon for the first time and Alex again) if you haven't yet.

Another wall of text incoming! In BEcause, Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's backing vocals is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done. About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art. "Maison" is part 1 of the Apocalypse trilogy. Dreamcatcher are touching on a very important subject here. Maison is French for "house" or rather "home", and they are singing about everyone's home, which is our planet. Previously they talked about online hate, now they are tackling an issue that impacts the whole planet and therefore everyone. Climate change is going to affect all of us, and it is already affecting many people. Island Nations will disappear under the ocean ("Save my home in the ocean"). Ice melts in the arctic and displaces people ("Save my home in the polar"). Forests get decimated by corporate greed and habitats get destroyed ("Save my home in the jungle") and disappearing glaciers and snow packs result in even less water for deserts ("Save my home in the desert"). People have a natural tendency to ignore issues that seem to be in the future - but climate change is here, right now. We can't wait anymore, and it is good that Dreamcatcher use their platform to promote change: "Break your habit now!" Musically I really enjoy the song. Like in BEcause, the rock/metal vibe is dialed back a bit, but it is still there and highly distorted. Although the more I listen to it, the more Rock I hear. I especially like how the pre-chorus and chorus seems to appear out of nowhere, the chord progression in the bridge, and the epic end part. The bass line is crazy as well. LEEZ and Ollounder (their producers) have done it again, and the members are just brilliant. "Vision" is part 2 of the Apocalypse trilogy. I believe they are showing us the perspective from the future in this series, showing us how the earth looks like when we keep acting like we do. While "Maison" was talking about the destruction of the environment, here they seem to be talking about the destruction due to war. I don't know if that was the idea from the beginning, but Putin's aggression definitely played a role here. In one set they even dance in front of what looks sort of like a huge trident, which is the coat of arms of Ukraine (could be a coincidence though, or this is me seeing things). It is easy to see how the conflict in Ukraine could result in global destruction. It's just a push of a button away. Note that Dami presses a launch button, but it's not for nukes. It's for spreading their message, their vision. Peace. To be heard all around the world. The song is also a call for action, to stand together against aggressors and those who are destroying the planet out of greed. There is not much difference between someone leading an army or a corporation, if the result is destruction. Still, Dami said the intention is to resolve the problems in a peaceful way. So, what do we do? There is no easy answer. Dami has an outfit that shows that perfectly. One half is an innocent bridal dress, the other half is simply badass. What I know is that any aggressor only listens to very limited diplomacy, and they need to know that the good in the world is ready and willing to fight them if needed. Whoever the aggressor is, we are more than them. They need to know they will never succeed, the only option is peace. By the way, my interpretation could be completely wrong, any other theory is perfectly valid as well. Musically, it's heavier than Maison, and I feel it fits the subject matter very well. It sounds aggressive and heavy, but also soft and vulnerable. There is the duality again. And I love the fake keychange at the end of the chorus, the crazy bass and the guitar in the bridge. "Reason" is the fan-song for Dreamcatcher's 6th anniversary. I can't even begin to describe how proud I am of them. They're flexing their rock and vocal muscles, while all three rappers make an appearance. InSomnia might be lifting them up, but they should know, they are also carrying us. Happy 6th anniversary, Dreamcatcher! Can you imagine this song live? With us InSomnia going Whoooo-whoooaaa and them singing over it? 😊 I wouldn't be surprised if the animations were done by a fan, I seem to recognize the style. Whoever did them, they did a great job. I see the book from the Nightmare arc, the mask from Scream, the gun from R.o.S.E Blue, the gagged bust from Boca, the cup from Odd Eye, the hand through the mirror from Good Night and the clock from Piri. Musically, I am in heaven. I'm a metalhead and I love the song. AND THAT RIFF! 🤘🎸 Obviously the song is an absolute anthem! "Bon Voyage" is the 3rd and final part of the Apocalypse trilogy, which is about the destruction of the environment by humanity. The members have mentioned that it is about giving nature a break. Any encounter between human beings always has separation attached to it as well, just as death is a part of life. SuA also said that the fluffy floating thing that Dami summons from her painting is a cell, representing nature. It has been named "Celly" and is adorable, right? My dark mind believes that they are saying "Have a good trip" to humanity, since we are well on our way of wiping ourselves out. It's like a breakup between humanity and the earth. Once humanity is gone, nature gets the break it needs and the circle will begin again. For me, the key to understanding the lyrics is that they are singing as human beings, not as a single person. And they are singing to nature, confessing their love and the realization that we are not good for nature and that it probably resents us. It could also be the other way round (them singing as mother nature to humanity). SuA jumping out after the dove seem to represent their desire for peace. There are still many things I don't know. For example, why are all three titles in French. 😉 (And why are there 3 Damis with 7 shadows...) The story of the MV seems to be that the rest of humanity has sheltered away under force fields after the apocalypse. This gives nature time to heal. Musically I can already say this is one of their best songs for me. The chorus slaps hard, and the variations between heavy and slow are just beautiful. It has emotion and impact at the same time. Putting JiU's sweet voice together with an acoustic guitar is simply genius. We lost Leez as a producer, but the team around Ollounder did a fantastic job! And as a bass player, I can say the slap bass is crazy! I probably won't have to tell anyone that the visuals here are out of this world. I'm going to say it anyways: The members have never looked more beautiful, and the whole team all deserve a raise! No More is their heaviest release so far. Pontus Norgren of Hammerfall participated in the writing and played guitar! And their self-made MVs are legendary!

dreamcatcher \:D/ so many comments already so I'll spare you another essay ;) one note if it hasn't already been mentioned is that they are not that popular in korea mainly because rock isn't popular in their native country. most of their fans, I would say over 90%, maybe over 95% are international. I don't want to diminish their music show wins because it in itself a huge accomplishment just knowing where dreamcatcher is coming from. music show wins are basically popularity contests. while some points are given to streams, yt views, and album sales, the majority in a lot of cases are fan voting. the problem is many music shows restrict voting to those in korea. as you can see when most of your fans are international, dreamcatcher is at a huge disadvantage. insomnias have to work extra work just to be able to vote in some cases, like through vpns, getting access to a korean phone number, etc... the music show wins they did get are considered more of the 'minor' ones and are a little more friendly to international fans.

FYI again : They also said during their times in a variety show called Weekly Idol that this song is about a love-turns-into-obsessive and toxic(?) relationship. The word of "BE" in a form of capital words came from Hanja word that means "sadness", and so it represent with their hands gesture that symbolizing the word.
