Each time someone posts, "We have heat", "We have shelter", "We have food", "We have electricity", it is a reminder that our efforts are not in vain. The need is so great that we who can't be there physically sometimes wonder if our donations are actually producing results. Our little donations are God's mustard seeds. They will grow and someday, some bright happy day, all this will be memory. FEMA is like most govt organizations...too much red tape and hoops to jump through that makes it a dinosaur of an operation. FEMA should be broken down to State or regional level with each branch having the autonomy to make it's own decisions and pull funding from their own pot of money and at the federal level. The inability to act quickly has been this way since the Dept was created. You can't blame the politics, it is just the way all government departments operate...when it comes to emergency management FEMA is too decentralized from the action. It just doesn't work as currently set up. Victims need boots on the ground - National guard, reservists, military civil engineers from all branches. Devastation like this is beyond what locals can handle. Federal and State agencies need to study how Japan handled their response to the 2011 tsunami. Seeing what they've achieved is pretty amazing. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy. Keep on giving updates so that they are not forgotten amongst all the chaos happening in America. This is not about politics, but helping people in their time of need.

Folks, we have a situation on our hands. After this brutal cold-snap for the next three nights, it's going to warm up and the weather is calling for rain and wind. That, with 30-40 degree temperatures is the worst-possible scenario. Tents aren't going to be enough. We have to get some tractor-trailers in there to get people into. With the heaters, they should be all right through the night. This is the only way they are going to survive. In this weather, if you're wet, you're in big trouble. We're talking about kids and old people, too. If you know someone with a tractor-trailer, ask them to go on up starting on saturday, when the rain is supposed to come. Otherwise, call your local trucking companies and urge them to act. The main force of the rain should only last 2-3 days, and the trucks would be free. From monday (today) to wednesday, 1-3 inches of snow are predicted and 3-5 inches of snow for places higher than 3500 ft. That's all going to melt in the rain. Pray to stop this rain. If you're more new-age, or your beliefs are more nature-based, go ahead and do some elemental magick. Situation critical.

This same situation happened to a small town in middle Tennessee. August 21,2021 and killed 20 people. Including twin babies, children and adults. It was horrific and happened in moments with absolutely no warning. Today there is still so much clean up needed. Three area’s of government housing with multiple duplexes and apartment buildings still sit today just as they were when the water receded. Cars sitting in them still. There was very little help given from the government. What help that did come was local people, nonprofit organizations, churches and Mennonites. There was little grant money given to those who owned their own homes but basically it was up to the owners to rebuild without the help of insurance because it wasn’t a flood area, so no flood insurance. Slowly things are looking better but 3 years later there is no mistaking where the flood waters had been when you see how much still needs cleaning up.

I just went through this area returning from Florida heading to Michigan. I had the plan to visit Mitchell Mountain through the Blue Ridge Parkway but I was not aware that the damage was so heavy that until last weekend the roads were closed. For sure most of the people are not aware how devastating this hurricane was. I was really impressed with car, trucks, houses dragged by the power of the water. God Bless you all.

Three feet of rain from two separate storms! People have no idea the areas seen here were already flooded a foot or more above flood stage BEFORE Helene hit a day later. That first storm made all the mountain hollers saturated then Helene sent the Earth moving down them with a fury nobody has ever seen before. Godspeed to all.

Everything you said was true, about the conditions here. I live here, near the French Broad River. It makes me cry every time I go out. And for those of you who are wondering "Where's the government", please believe me when I tell you that EVERY level of government is active here. FEMA, the state, the counties, the towns, and of course, OUR NEIGHBORS. That's why we are 75% back to "normal". But nothing is normal here anymore. It is not normal to see big rigs upside down in the river. It is not normal to see mud-covered debris 15 feet high in the trees. It is not normal for our friends to have no job and no home to go to. That will be the New Normal for a long time to come.

Gordon, my heart breaks for everyone there that was affected by this tragic event, I get frustrated by the armchair calvary blaming the ones who open the gates of those dams, do they not realize that the pressure of the water would eventually break the dam and still get same results, good lord. I also don't understand why people are going about rebuilding process, once water has been there, all those foundations are going to be very unstable now and lose the ability to withstand their structural purpose so why are they not just tearing everything down and starting from scratch is my question???

@Frostin_Austin The state couldn't even give a timeline on repayment, I done the numbers if I ran them 10 hours a day and 6 days a week it was 9000 +/- gallons a week in fuel roughly $32,040.00 just for fuel, I could float that for a few weeks, however not knowing a timeline it isn't beneficial to me or my employees. The hard numbers are scary. Labor and per diem combined is $93,000.00 a week, add those two together it's $125,040.00 every 6 days. Those are just the basic numbers. They need to figure out how they are going to replace almost 47,000 yard of gravel for every mile of road. I spent a week there surviving and and 3D mapping. the numbers are astronomical just to repair infrastructure. Doesn't include residential drives and roads, ten's of billions. It will take years to test every private water well that was impacted by the flood. A disaster like this has never happened in the US this is worse case, if I had to compare it to a disaster it is comparable to the Japan tsunami of 2011. Nobody was prepared. How could someone prepare for whole mountains sliding and not just one but many.

@TheJudgeGTO maybe you could try getting a hold of a church or Samaritan purse. They could probably get you in touch with the right people to be able to volunteer/donate. My grand daughter goes to Cherry Grove Baptist Church in Tennessee. They have been a big support to the community in our state, (Tennessee). Maybe contact someone from that church. To my understanding it's mostly churches and communities that have volunteered to help all the victims. Our area of upper NE Tennessee has been hit hard as well. Thank you so much for your willingness to help. God bless you.

FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) mission is to support the citizens and first responders to promote that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards. So it sounds like they are just moral support.

People need to all get together to do a massive legal defense fund so that teh government works for us again. When you stand down, you will just get trampled on. These citizens have collectively paid billions in taxes over their lives. These billions were all sent to other countries for them to buy weapons. It needs to be used here. Why do people protest, or let the government take advantage of them, or "protest" or complain while the nation falls? That is the only message to every person everywhere. I empathise with all the residents of the destroyed communities as we had horrendous flooding in Canmore, Calgary and the surrounding Canadian Rocky Mountains, in June 2013. There was also a severe flooding event in November 2021 in British Columbia that caused devastation for hundreds of miles. I still remember the river in front of my home hurtling past at 45mph with huge waves that looked like the sea. The river rose 20 feet in 2 hours. I could not believe what my yes were seeing. To this day, when I look at the river in front of my home I cannot fathom how it can rise so fast in so short a time. I am so sorry that there was so much loss of life and whole communities due to the Hurricane. I"ve donated to the Samaritans Purse, from Canada. I know that they sent teams to help as fast as they could. Thank you for making this video and for posting it.

The same devastation happened here in Lismore, NSW Australia 3 years ago, affecting 30,000 residents. The entire business district went under, some parts 10 ft to 30 ft. We don't know how many locals died - the media lied as they do. Most of the businesses had to fold or move away. Even the local airport was completely smashed with many small planes upside down, wings torn off... the same situation with no government help, everyone relied upon each other.
