A viewer named Rick E made a comment critical of the Z10, and I wanted to respond to it, but either Rick himself or KZbin took it down. If it was KZbin, I don't know why they'd do it, it was a valid comment. Rick mentioned that his robot gave him a brush stall error on medium pile carpeting. This doesn't surprise me, since this is the same company that used to make Roborocks and they are notorious for that issue. Kinda like the error 26 on Roombas. Rick, I do plan to set up a medium pile carpet test and so I will test this robot on "normal" carpet. You said, "This is the best robot you've ever tested?" Yes, it is, because it hasn't given me any errors at all, because bin is emptied every time, and because the app is simple but bug free. What is the use of fancy features if the robot cannot complete a cleaning run reliably because of app and navigation/cleaning algorithm bugs?

I have the Dreame L10, I think it's the same as the Z10 but without the auto empty station. The vacuum motor sounds the same, the app does not speak very well, I had to get sighted help to set the suction to max but I can start a clean with it which is all I really need. The self empty docks are good but they definitely take up more space which is why I chose the L10, when you have several lidar bots, you can tell a difference with their navigation. I recently replaced my dining room table with a smaller one, it has two chairs and when they are pushed in, there is not enough room for a robot to go under the table. I have two of my robots docked against the wall that you can easily get to if you go around the table. When I tell the Eufy Robovac X8 to head home, it does try to go under the table briefly, then once it realizes that it can't, it goes around the table and docks itself. The Dreame L10 takes much longer, it tries much harder to find a way to go under the table between the chairs, eventually it realizes that it can't and goes around the table but the Eufy robovac figures it out much quicker, I'm not sure if the object avoidance on the Dreame L10 makes a difference with that or not.

@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 3 жыл бұрын
I can do that for you right now. First, the self-empty bins are comparable...the Dreame's is better, but in the real world, both get the job done. In terms of cleaning performance, the j7 is the same as the i7, so on hard floors, it's a little better, and on carpets it's a little worse, though I can only compare what you see (as opposed to deep cleaning). Object avoidance will be mixed...the j7 will avoid poop better while the Z10 will avoid cords and laces better. Navigation wise, the j7 is just as primitive as the i7, except that the light means you can run it in the dark, which is very nice. But mapping will still take forever and it will lack the Z10's precision and will often get lost and confused. If avoiding pet poop is your highest priority, get the j7. Otherwise, the Z10 is the clear choice.

Big house (130sq metres), dogs, wooden floor everywhere apart from bathroom and kitchen where there are tiles, carpets during the winter (low pile), lots of dust and sand during the summer (Greece here and everyday visits to the sea plus all windows opens for more than 4 months), and here am I trying to decide...the z10, the roborock s5 max, the roborock s6 max v? I know the 2 roborocks don't have the self-emptying bin but if they do a significantly better job on my hard floor I'm prepared to empty the bin myself. I've watched literally endless reviews about robot vacuum cleaners and I'm always getting back to these 3 candidates (even though I'm also looking at the viomi s9 too...). Your review is the best I've seen in terms of honesty and straightforwardness. Any ideas to help me decide?

So my biggest hesitation in saying "you don't want to empty the dust bin every day, get the Z10" is that I don't know how well it will handle sand. So I'm going to do a test tonight (I have sand!) and will do a quick video about it.
@orcamum

@@MrRoombato that is exactly where I've got stuck because in lots of review videos I've seen the reviewers saying (and showing) that it's brilliant with carpets (which is very important for me because of pet hair) but so so with hard floors and especially sand. Living in Greece means that half the year we have lots of sand getting in the house from all over the place. I really appreciate your prompt reply and your readiness to check its behaviour with sand so promptly. Looking forward to your advice! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

@@orcamum I tested it with sand and cat litter and compared it to the Roborock S6 MaxV. Both picked up sand well enough, but the S6 was better with cat littler. Both left some behind after 1 pass (like most of these robots, the Z10 does not let you do scheduled cleanings with multiple passes, hopefully this will change) but the Z10 left a bit more. You can always do multiple scheduled cleanings in the sandy parts of your house. If you clean manually (using the app) then it lets you do 2 passes. With 2 passes, the Z10 left very little behind, but the Roborock left almost nothing. So the S6 is definitely better on hard floors, but I don't think the S6 is better enough that I want to empty a dust bin every day (trust me that gets old fast). I'll have the video up in a few days but I wanted to give you a heads up.

No, probably not. I think the z10 is a better robot overall, and that the s9 will scratch your wood and laminate floors (how much depends on a lot of factors), but I think the s9 is the better cleaner, though not by that much. If you have a very simple floor plan, the s9 won't have any problems, but if your house is complicated, you may be better off with a LIDAR robot.

I have the same robot vacuum (thanks to ur review) and i love the z10. It's mopping however (like any other robot vacuum) isn't the best, and im thinking of pairing another bot that does a better mopping. Do you think the ilife w450 is a good enough choice to pair it with? Or the much more expensive dreame w10 would be a better option (although the vacuuming part may be a little redundant to have) Hope to hear your feedback soon. Thanks
@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 2 жыл бұрын
The W10, all the way. No question. First, the vacuuming is not redundant. Think of it as a second cleaning pass. Second, what if you want a room mopped outside of the schedule? With the W450 you would have to send your Z10 first, then bring the W450 there and hope you can somehow confine it to that room. With the W10 you just open the app and pick a room. Third, the W10 will clean on a schedule, without you having to carry it around, and all you have to do is dump and fill water and empty a dust bin everyone now and then (I empty mine once a week).
@MrRoombato

@@MrRoombato for clarifications sake are you suggesting (having a dog that sheds) to keep the Z10 for vacuuming/auto dustbin emptying and use the W10 for mopping and occasionally vacuuming 2nd pass? Or exclusively use the W10 (and sell the Z10)? The only downside to the W10 I see is that it doesn’t empty the dustbin. And as a dog haver this is a showstopper. I’ll be curious how you feel about the S7 maxV Ultra vs the W10/Z10. Wish the S7mVU had a real mop…
@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 2 жыл бұрын
@@worldburger I used the Z10 Pro/W10 combo for months and I loved it. I had the W10 vacuum and mop and emptied the dust bin about once a week when I dumped/filled the water tanks. This combo worked really well for me and I never had any issues. But if my rescue dog were to crap on the floor, it would have been game over. The S7mVU does have a real mop and it works great, at least as well as the W10 with one caveat...it only mops that well when in mop only mode (they chose to not allow the overlapping turn mode in combination with the vacuum). I have mine going out vacuuming only and then mopping only (since it does it at night this doesn't bother me at all). The big advantage is of course the object avoidance. The disadvantage is that all of your eggs are in one basket. If you're not worried about poop, I would keep what you have.

Hi Mr. Roombato, I have a question! I’ve had the room a j7 for about a little over a month and I’ve been having serious problems with it. My house has a black and white color scheme with black doors and door frames as well as white and black patterned rugs. The J7 seems to frequently get lost and give me errors. I think it’s the black doors which confuses it, and it requires a lot of light for it to clean without giving up and returning to the base. For 3200sqft, it takes 5-6hours to clean which seems absurd. Plus, despite multiple mapping runs and everyday cleaning, it still has yet to make a correct map of my house. I’ll spare you the full list of issues (there are more) but because of that I’m looking for an alternative that can preferably avoid wires. I was assured that as the ai learns, the j7 would improve, but I’ve been having these issues with the obstacle detection on and off. I’ve been looking at the deebot n8+ and t8+ but am worried about the buggy app and navigation. My home has a large central area with hardwood and rooms with carpet. I’m open to any robot vaccum you recommend. I just hope it’s sold by best buy so I can use the store credit from the j7 return. Also, I have a cat that likes to pull out tufts of fur while grooming Sorry for the long question!

I highly recommend the Z10 Pro. My only hesitation is that some people reported that the brush stalls on carpet, which is an issue people used to have with Roborock. Then again, most people don't have this problem. My suggestion is, buy the Z10 Pro on Amazon, see if it has this issue with your carpet, and if not, keep it. I only have very low pile carpet in my house (including that rug I use to test carpet cleaning) and I haven't had a single issue with the Z10. Not one. It's kinda spooky and I'm waiting for it to explode, but...that's how it's been.

Do you have pets? If so, don't even consider the Ecovacs. As for a mop, if you were going to get the vibrating mop that's sort of okay, it's not as good as a dedicated mopping robot but better than the sort of passive mop that gets dragged the robot, but honestly, it's not so much better that I would let it change the robot I bought just to accommodate it.
@donnnnn9196

Why don't you recommend the Roborock S7? I'm interested in it since the scrubby mopping looks pretty good and Robot Wars' testing said its vacuuming is better than other Roborocks, despite the rubber brush.
@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 3 жыл бұрын
It's not despite the rubber brush, it's because of it, and the free floating brush housing. As for why I don't recommend it, I was concerned when it first came out that it would scratch floors, because of both of the above--the rubber brush becomes sandpaper when it's covered in dirt and the floating housing pushes it firmly into the floor and drags the housing itself around. And since it's come out, I've had multiple subscribers report that it scratches the hell out of their floors. Some sent photos, and they were pretty obvious. The second and far lesser reason is that the self-empty bin doesn't work very well. I don't know why Roborock chose to suck out the dirt through the brush housing, but it seems like a dumb idea. Now I'm only basing that assessment on other reviewers and their testing, as I have no interest in buying one, nor would I run one in my house because of the scratching. And since I've opened my mouth about this issue, I doubt roborock would ever send me one.
@donnnnn9196
@donnnnn9196 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrRoombato Thanks for the detailed reply. I was hoping the floor scratching you had warned about was the reason. For me it's an OK trade-off and I don't care about self-emptying docks, although the dust bin being redesigned to accommodate the dock and being harder to manually empty looks annoying. Maybe it's semantics, but I thought the floating brush housing was responsible for S7's improved vacuuming because it seals on the floor. I assumed the rubber brush was a necessary evil because they found that pressing bristles against the floor would bend them and destroy the brushes too quickly. If that's not the case, do you know the rationale for the rubber brush or what it's better at? Roborock phone support was stumped by this question, all they could tell me was it's worse with long hairs but performs about the same as the earlier bristle/fin hybrid brushes otherwise. I was thinking about returning my S6 MaxV and grabbing the S7 on Black Friday deal for the same price I paid. Your Z10 review has me reconsidering. I think the S7's scrubby mopping and ability to raise the mop on carpet so it can clean the whole house in one go will outweigh Dreame's advantages for me, close call though
@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 3 жыл бұрын
@@donnnnn9196 You should care about self-emptying docks! Once you get used to one, robots without them seem pointless, like half of a good idea. To answer your question, the rubber brush is all about carpet cleaning. That's also why hybrid brushes have bristles and rubber fins/blades. Only the bristles make contact with hard floors, but because carpet fibers stand tall, they flatten the bristles and make contact with the carpet fibers, agitating them, allowing for deep cleaning. Brush bristles don't really agitate carpet very much.

Richard, have you tried not cleaning the filter every time? I know it looks dirty but that should not impede functionality. A filter should be good for weeks if not months. The Q11 has been buggy, but I think they've gotten it mostly squared away at this point. Compared to the Z10, it's a lot quieter, more prone to hair tangles and the self-empty bin is not as good, but, it's one of the better ones on the market and aside from it not doing as well in tests or having some stuff in it when I check, it's never made me empty the robot's bin by hand, which means in the real world, it works just as well. Can the dust bag be reused? Or do I have to buy a new one?
@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 3 жыл бұрын
Sort of, and this goes for all bins that use bags. You can reuse it, although emptying it is a very unpleasant experience...the amount of dirt it holds is surprising. But reusing it may affect the self-empty dock's performance. The bag also acts as a filter, and like all filters, it eventually gets clogged.

I've been considering this as my next robot vacuum but the fact that it doesn't have a replaceable battery makes me a bit nervous. I just had to replace my eufy's 30C battery after almost 2 years and it was so easy and cheap. What are your thoughts on this? Thank you!

The issue isn't laziness (I mean, not with most people, you never know with some lol) it's that you may not even know your dog shat on the floor. It's not like it's going to walk up to you and say, "Hey Dave, I just shat on your living room floor. Sorry about that, my bad. But your fat lazy ass hasn't walked me in six hours, so f*ck you, Dave!!"
