I'm in agreement with everyone that you both are amazing parents. I'm in awe with the great attitude, commitment, and patience you both have to keep your son happy, safe, and well-adjusted. My professor, a well known school psychologist Dr. Fletcher-Janzen, also had us watch your video for our midterm. We are to write about any anticipated problems he may have in school. This touches close to home, because my cousin is also Type I. I remember her struggles growing up and still going strong!!

He has Type I diabetes. He is 2 years old here-refused to eat eggs and sausage. Our hospital told us not to restrict his diet. Fruit is healthy, carbs in general are so important for a growing body and mind. We feed our kids healthy. You should be complimenting me on the time I took and measures I went to, to make sure I calculated everything just right and gave him the correct amount of insulin. It wasn't fast food or muffins or sugary cereal etc. You must not have a child with Type I.

Thank you for posting this video! I recently found out I'm type 1 at 25 yrs old and can't even imagine what it would be like for a toddler. It's a lot of extra work around meal times but as a diabetic friend told me we have the best chance to be our healthiest since we need to think about carbs and sugars and fiber when we eat. Kudos on being such great parents, Henry seems so brave and so comfortable with being diabetic so young.

I have been posting our journey since we started. He is four now. He was in preschool this year and it went well. He was on an insulin pump so we taught his teachers how to count carbs for the snack and also how to use his meter to deliver him insulin. We just took him off of him pump and went back on shots and we are feeling very nervous about how school will go. Glad to be a stay at home mom. Thank you for sharing!!

Thank you for putting this video up. Your little boy is very brave. My elderly mother is a diabetic and she's tested every morning. She's, also, taking Lantus and I'm so happy. Before she used to have the short working insulin and that had to be given 5 times a day! I hated having to pinch her so often. Now with Lantus, I think that her quality of life has improve. In any case, if a little boy like yours has to go through this regimen every day, I feel a little better for my mother.

Just a little tip... when you test his blood sugar level, try to avoid pricking the middle area of his fingertips, do it on the side instead. A lot of people end up having decreased sensitivity in their fingertips because the nerve endings can get damaged over time from all the pricking.

My son have type 1 diabetes and he has recently managed to have excellent control of his blood sugars by eating a vegan diet and cutting out wheat. He gets his carbs from sweet potato and quinoa . He also has green smoothies and has loads of salads. This has worked so well for him. It has meant that he is taking half the amount of insulin so his hypos are not nearly as severe He treats his hypos with bananas. Hope this helps loads of people. My heart goes out to everyone suffering from this condition. Even though it can be tough at first changing your diet can have a huge impact on your health and quality of life.
