Dreamtime at the 'G delivers with an instant classic

A last-minute goal from Sam Durham has helped Essendon end its 13-game losing streak against the Tigers on Saturday night.
The unlikely hero put his side ahead with almost no time to spare in the annual Dreamtime at the 'G clash with the Bombers holding on 10.11 (71) to 10.10 (70) in a see-sawing affair.

As an American traveling the world and wishing to learn about other cultures, I knew I had to take the opportunity on my last night in Melbourne to go see a footy game. I had more awareness of AFL than the average American, but to say I really understood the essence of the game when I entered the MCG would have been an overstatement. What. A. Thrill! The Dreamtime festivities were fascinating, the crowd was electric, and the play kept my eyes glued on the pitch. Though I somewhat randomly chose a Richmond scarf, I would hardly say that I left in despair after such a compelling match; it has made a lifelong Aussie rules football fan out of me, and I hope to get some more American eyes on this spectacular game!

Thrilling match from start to finish. Loved the pre-game Dreamtime show and ceremony. The linking of the arms bwn the Essendon & Tigers players got me in my feelings 🥺🥺🥺🥺 I feel for Tigers but can't knock the Bombers - they showed some finesse in the final quarter and never gave up. If they had lost, they wouldn't have lost any admirers. They've been competitive in games against top teams, even with a lot of injuries. Dylan Shiel was another big out. I think they've got a good thing with Brad Scott.

Kudos to the Bombers, it was a great contest for majority of the game and the tigers looked to have been in control in the 4th quarter but they were able to change the momentum and to get home in a dreamtime classic.
