Been enjoying Mike's new style of videos, so I was pleased to hear that you were giving it a try too at the start of the video! It's very relaxing. I do sometimes still miss hearing what goes through you guys' minds when you take a picture or see a scene before you, so I personally would not object to the occasional commentary in the video still, be it from the POV cam or voice-over. Also, that filter definitely pulled its weight, so dreamy!

Hey, I really enjoy your videos, as I am getting into photography I find myself binge watching all the stuff you have on your channel. You may excuse this rather basic question but as a newbie I'm wondering about the aperture values you provide with the final picture. From my (limited) understanding, aren't you shooting with a fixed aperture lens? How come that you seem to have shot on different F-values? If this is like a super stuoid question I apologize, I'm just trying to learn.

Thanks a lot! Glad you like the vids So the F number that comes with the lens is actually the LOWEST possible F value, where it lets in the most light - this is also what they mean with the lens is "wide open" and therefore letting in the most light. A side effect of this is that the backgrounds blurry and pictures brighter. So this means that you actually have all F values ABOVE the lowest F number. So my F1.4 prime lens means it can't zoom (fixed focal length) and its LOWEST aperture is F1.4, but you can also shoot it at F4, F8 etc.

I was surprised when I read the bio and saw this was a 1.4 lens.. I would have figured most would be taken at that f stop due to low light.. were you're f stop choices based on how much you wanted in focus instead of purely low light?

good Q - in hindsight I should've taken a few pics at F1.4 tbf but youre right I was trying to prioritise what's in focus / dont have too shallow depth of field as you lose context sometimes when you shoot all the way wide open at F1.4

Oh another reason is that I was using the mist filter which sometimes results in difficulty focusing in low light!
