Exactly - I really didn't know better at that point ;-) I saw my first lathe 2 years ago and began to collect knowledge (mostly from Keith) around last year's december :D Best wishes Adrian

Hi Kevin. Thanks for the comment. You can change the speed by changing the position of the belt, similar to the gear change on a bicycle. There is also a reduction drive with two more wheels to reduce the speed even more, for very hard metals or for thread turning. Like this, you can choose certain speeds from 3000 to 125 rpm. And for the size your guess was correct, I started with 10 mm and then went down to 8mm to get all the threads off. Greetings Adrian

For diameters < 15mm I use the big spindle wheel and the small one on the motor, for finishing cuts, I use the medium wheels. For diameters above 15mm I use the reduction (I didn't on the M20-Video as I hadn't known about all that yet) and for finishing cuts the large Spindle wheel and the small motor-wheel. You can hear that turning the M20 is very loud in the clip, with the reduction it runs much smoother! The 2nd reduction wheel is only for very big diameters/thread cutting. Greetings Adrian

Hi Adrian Another good video Can you tell me if you have a slow speed attatchment and idler wheel for your Unimat and what was the starting and finishing diameter of your bar, maybe 8mm finished? Viele Grüße Kevin

Hi Adrian Thanks for the reply. Thats what I was getting around to...I could not understand why you were running so fast when turning the M20 screw, you have answered my next question now :D Regards Kevin

You can also see how I change the position of the belt for a higher speed on the finishing cut around 5:24. Greetings Adrian

Hi Adrian Thats what I meant, the reduction drive. It's hard to tell what speed you are running at but you seem to have the belt on the slower speed {(main pulleys) in your two turning videos} i.e. all the gears usable before engaging the reduction gear, I hope this makes sence! I was just curious to know what were the speeds for roughing and then the finish cut? Sorry to be a nuisance. Greetings Kevin

vie ghets!...great video, but, my German is rusty.. Your subtitles need translating. the little comments while loading/unloading the spindle etc are valuable info. thanks for sharing
