I have high blood pressure and my potassium was low after being put on new blood pressure. My doctor said that low potassium was actually bad for my kidneys and told me to eat a banana and some dried apricots to up my potassium. I ate a banana a day and a handful of dried apricots and within two weeks my potassium returned to normal levels. Now I eat a banana a day and munch on apricots as well as eating the salads and a Mediterranean diet. My doctor feels confident that I will be able to get off of high blood meds if I start exercising regularly and drop some pounds. I am 83 years old & counting. I have been doing this kind of diet most of my life. I know this information. I do lack in the exercise, but I’m not a couch potato. I have lots of interests that keep me moving. I still have high blood pressure. It came on me suddenly just 6 months ago. I ended up in the emergency room for the 1st time in my life with nausea (not the throwing up kind) that made me sick all over. I had no idea what was happening to me. It took 3 emergency room visits & several doctor visits before I got any medicine, even tho my pressure was anywhere from 169 to as much as 219. ( dystolic was never out of control) My BP was jumping all over the place. No one could understand why I felt so yucky!! No one knew what to do for me. I do not like taking drugs but I was also afraid not to do ‘something’ for fear of a stroke or heart attack. I do know a few people that are on blood pressure meds & they seem to be doing fine. They didn’t even know they had HBP, til their doctor told them. Well, I finally figured out ‘the cause’ of my HBP!! And……very, very few doctors, or even these doctors that know that drugs are not the answer to curing it, are addressing this. In my case it’s STRESS!!! With my faith in God, I’ve handled stress relatively well all my life, but for the last 3 years I’ve been under a ‘new’ family stress. I was hoping things would get better with time, but that’s not happening. God & I are still working on it. I’m praying that when this problem gets solved I can get off these ‘cotton-pickin’ drugs!

TIL high blood pressure is often caused by low potassium, and that blood pressure meds are potassium blockers, and that Dr. Berg feels it's the ratio of sodium to potassium in a person's blood that is more important. Having high sodium requires more potassium to offset it, to prevent the sodium from raising blood pressure. When you intake less sodium, your potassium/sodium level ratio improves. Potassium protects the kidneys, except in stage 4 or above kidney disease.

The no. 1 reason why people are so deficient in K today and have high blood pressure is sugar and starches consumption. My dad (71 years old) was for over 10 years on HBP medication. Completely ineffective, treating the symptom not the root cause. Of course doctors told him "It comes with aging, nothing you can do about it". I introduced him to keto, through dr Berg, Eckberg and others videos - problem solved in 2 weeks. Ever since, he doesn't need any medication and his BP is average 117/75. And that's stable blood pressure, for years. Keto also solved other health problems for him, but that's another topic.

I started watching Dr. Berg and another MD the first week of May 2019 and started strict Keto with my husband. Within three weeks, 15 pounds of fluid went down the toilet. My pressure was normal. I had run out of the medication a few days before seeing the NP. Pressure normal. He said that if my pressure is normal for another week, that he'd take me off the medication. When the pain had me screaming, I thought I had a ruptured bowel. IV drawn blood tests & a CT scan revealed very low potassium level, despite a decade on 4/day potassium tablets, but no blocked or ruptured gut. 2 units of potassium via IV, more tests, then drank oral potassium solution. My gut pain was gone nearly instantly. 9 hrs in the ER, and a $9,200 invoice...all due to low potassium. Geesh! Excellent info Dr Berg!! Who woulda thought!! 🥴 In fact I just read that avocados 🥑 are the TOP food source for potassium - and I eat at least one per day - occasionally two! We always stock up on avocados every trip to Costco, and once they just BARELY get ripe they are placed into the vegetable compartment of our refrigerator to slow the ripening process allowing them to be eaten over the course of the next week or even two! 👍 From Healthline - Avocados are packed with nutrients, and one avocado provides roughly 15% of your daily potassium needs. Avocados are awesome and delicious, at least at their PRIME ripeness point, which only lasts for a few short days, literally... Unless, (and this is an addition to what you said about putting them in the vegetable drawer of your fridge), (avocados are actually a tropical FRUIT, BTW!), but anyway, an even MORE effective way to keep avocados for a long time in the refrigerator is when they're just about ripe enough to use, right before then place them into a jar and completely submerge them in filtered water and tightly seal the top of the jar, then place that sealed jar with the water and avocado(s) in it into the fridge, on ANY shelf that's convenient, and the avocado(s) that are completely submerged in the clean water this way will keep for many weeks without spoiling, or getting too ripe to use! The key points are to make sure the avocados stay completely submerged so that NO AIR can get to them, that you always use filtered water, NOT just straight out of the tap, AND that you always thoroughly wash the outsides of the avocados BEFORE placing them into the water in the jar. Try it, it really works!

It’s a raw, multi-vegetable salad consisting of 8oz of leafy greens, hand full of baby carrots, 4 portobello mushrooms, 6 shaven brussel sprouts, 1 cup broccoli tops, 2 miniature cucumbers, 1/2 cup of raw onion, 1 cup bell pepper, 1/3 cup blueberries, 1/4 cup of sauerkraut, 1/4 cup kimchi, 3 pickle wedges, salt, pepper, garlic powder, EV olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Then I eat 85 - 100g of protein (beef, salmon, sardines, and/or eggs). This makes my one meal a day. I drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning and then drink 2-3 liters of filtered water with 3 scoops of Dr Berg’s Electrolyte Powder. I also walk 8-9 miles every other day. So I just take half a capsule every second day. (the capsules are 99mg) - just enough to eliminate my heart palpitations. Here in Australia, they won't sell potassium supplements over the counter. This is true. I had hypertension since high school. And I didn't used to have high sodium intake. I am not one to consume too much processed food. We are blessed with a mum who cooks. After graduating I moved to the coast. And while going to and from work I would pass some coconut water stalls. Since I don't tolerate heat very well, I would usually get a coco - drink on my way to and back from work. And kid you not. Within 2 months my Blood pressure was down to completely normal and I had a lot more energy than I did before. Next time I went for a checkup I learnt it was because of the K-Mg in coco water. Liqourice is also a great source of potassium. I started adding it to my turmeric latte (with turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon and ginger). That is an antioxidant power punch. Also I was consuming more oranges and a few dates. Again high content of potassium and magnesium. I Have not needed medication for blood pressure ever since. And even my acne have completely gone (thanks to all the antioxidants) Also, Vit D3 is another one that helps in reducing blood pressure and controlling diabetes,

If you guys don't know. Drink or Eat beat root. It has nitrates which your body converts into nitric oxide, which helps with blood flow and relaxes your blood vessels. Thus the same your medication does with chemicals. Trust me, I have been drinking it every month and now, I am on the phase of either quitting my medication or reducting it to a lower does.

This is a great video with good information. The problem is when a doctor would prescribe medication of a traditional BPM reading They only measure systolic and diastolic as well as heart rate which does not give a accurate medical grade reading of what really matters. Central blood pressure, augmentation pressure , central pulse pressure, brachial blood pressure and also subendocardio measurements.give a richer vision into what is going on in with arterial health which is where you get deeper insights. High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is caused by the force of blood pushing against artery walls. There is a new product coming on market next month called the Conneqt Pulse. FDA approved/ medical grade and has all these readings . Traditional BPM are now obsolete,

I simply cannot eat all the food I would need to consume to up my potassium intake to the range that Dr. Berg recommends. I'm a light eater! Would simply taking potassium supplements (in pill form) be a good way to get the needed K into the body? What brand(s) are good ones? Appreciate any advice.

I increased my electrolyte intake especially potassium and magnesium. I also switched to a salt substitute. I was able to come off of blood pressure meds since it’s now in normal ranges.

Hi Dr Berg, coming to this video late, but WHAT kind of Potassium should one consume 4700mg…Potassium Chloride, Citrate, Bicarbonate??? Confusing!!! Very happy to have found your channel and excellent, common sense medical advice! Thank you!
@Willowy133 ай бұрын
I use chloride. If you have stomach acid trouble (reflux, etc) I don't reccommend bicarbonate. It'll lower the acid even more and then force your stomach to make more, which can damage it.

Dr Berg please HELP!! My husband has been on triamterene for at least 18 years. He recently saw a BP specialist and she switched his medicine from triamterene to Spironolactone and amlodipine Besylate. He has been taking these two medicines for about two months. His BP did not go down it was reading at 160/100 today. She also told him that his potassium is low so the specialist advised him to have one of his adrenaline gland removed so his BP will stop going up. Do you think this is a good advice from the doctor? What do you think my husband should do? 😢

Great information and I respect all the contents of Dr. Eric Berg posts, God bless him. But what about CKD patients for whom Potassium is a threat. Can dialysis patients consume potassium as recommended in this video?
@jhubbard72569 ай бұрын
…naturally occurring potassium in foods is usually the best source. Never use supplements without the supervision of a medical professional if your body is already compromised by CKD.

I am totally dumbfounded on how our ancestors consumed 15000mg of K+ a day when foods were incredibly scarce. Hypertension can be prevented if we understand how to attack at the bottom of the problem. Being able to collect the right information and practice daily would be my advice.

Or does high blood pressure cause anxiety? I’ve had issues with panic attacks my entire life. I’m a woman in my 30s who has never been overweight yet I struggle with high blood pressure. I have to take propranolol to help m. Anxiety medication also brings down my blood pressure. I think years of panic attacks has caused many of my problems. But doctors try to lie and act like mental health is not tied to physical health.
