I always liked the question, "If the cowboys wore masks, why didn't the horses?" Horses were of great interest, and the average guy getting robbed would have noticed not only a lot about the robber, but also a lot about the robber's horse. Saddles could also be quite distinctive. And they tended to be kept, because they were relatively expensive.

You are so right. In the case of Bill Brazelton, he stabled his horse at a place that nobody would think to look for the bandit. The strength of capturing these guys was probably the one who tracked them unless there was a big distinguishing mark on the horse. A hoofprint may tell you more about the animal than a visual inspection.

shlisa shell kinda late, but my Grandad used to say ( He grew up with no AC, in South Georgia with the heat and humidity no less) that you simply didn’t know any better, because you were so used to it. Obviously there was shade and such, but they really didn’t know any different.

@mattbatey2597 - Unfortunately, the old photos don't reveal how colourful the clothing was. We can somehow convince ourselves that the actual past was as black and white as old photos and movies. Not only were there/are there natural dyes that can produce shades and tints of green, but "mauve" coal tar dye was discovered by accident in 1856. This was/is a very vivid pinky-purple colour and the first commercial synthetic dye. Other colours became available over the next few decades - I think the first green dye of any value was produced in 1862 and others followed, including malachite green in 1878. However, many of these early dyes were not as permanent as the older, natural, dyes. While the public liked the new bright colours, the manufacturers wanted more permanence. An outlaw, though, might have been persuaded by the colour and not worried (or realised) that it might fade or bleed and stain his skin or underclothes!

I had some family up in Utah durring the early 1910s who knocked over a bank, to disguise themselves they turned all their clothing inside out. It worked. They got away with it. They didn't get away with the counterfeiting they did with it however haha. It was reported in the same issue of the local paper that the robbery was. Luckily rhe didn't connect the two. Heck I think it even was on the same page of the paper.

Love it, my outfit/character is a Confederate Arizona Ranger, from Company A Baylor's Regiment of Arizona Rangers commanded by Captain Sherod Hunter. The unit fought all the way into Louisiana and east texas as well as attempting to defend Arizona from the union's California column. Seems like a perfect candidate to turn outlaw when he gets home to Arizona....

I've seen the pictures of the Dalton bodies many times, But i just noticed they were handcuffed even in death. Makes me wonder if they died after being handcuffed. Grat Dalton's left forearm down from the elbow took some damage too.

Food spoiled so they used a lot of dried meats preserved in salt. Water was stored in canteens, or bladders. Thanks so much for watching!

Female Outlaws might not have been the norm, but there are quite a few historical examples. Pearl Hart, Laura Bullion, Rose Dunn, Sally Scull, Big Nose Kate, Belle Star, Etta Place, Madame Mustache and Bonnie Parker. And there are quite a few other notorious Wild West Women as well: Calamity Jane, Poker Alice, Stagecoach Mary, "Charley" Parkhurst, Annie Oakley, Lottie Deno, Kitty Leroy, Maria Barcelo.

My family is Mexican, and I did 4 years worth of research, read papers, did DNA tests, asked family members, older folks from where my parents were from. Found out on my moms side my Great Great Grandfather or however many but in the 1890-1920s was definitely an outlaw, on my Fathers side they were ranchers. Funny thing is my moms side of the family is very stingy with money and my dads side is all about Farming, Ranching and just crop stuff. Interesting to me tbh.

Arizona Ghostriders I’d be interested in miners and mining camps in general. I live in a sleepy town called Norwood in NC. Apparently, Norwood use to be a central hub for the surrounding gold mines and was a mining camp called Center before it was incorporated. Some information is on the Norwood NC Wikipedia entry and local cops actually do a yearly presentation on this topic and discuss early law enforcement in this time along with what the town was like before becoming Norwood.
