As someone who grew up with this style and has never gotten over it: gargoyles were also a huge part. We had a cat gargoyle. I'm so glad this is coming back.

I was in my 20s when this aesthetic was at it's peak. I always think of it as the "Charmed"/"Buffy" aesthetic, because it featured so much in those two very popular television shows. I had so many friends who rocked this aesthetic, and my little sis dabbled in it a bit too. So much crushed velvet...

I'd really love if you could do a whimsigoth thrift shop with me. Like show items you find that could fit the whimsigoth aesthetic.

I really enjoy when you get into detail when talking about these alt styles. While I love the whimsygoth aesthetic, I do tend to be very disperse with my style and gravitate to what it suits my mood atm. For example, I like to incorporate certain elements of alt styles, such as earrings and some unique clothing pieces to enhance the look. My room, on the other hand, is going to a more pastel/chill vibe, with some fairylights and pigs. Oh lord, do I love pig me some plushies, specially if they were given to me by loved ones.

Yay glad you appreciate the detail hehe - though it’s not everyone’s style that watches I’m glad you guys can watch and enjoy and get something out of it. Your style sounds so cute! I love that! 🥰

I watched, and I saw things that I owned when I was in my 20s. As in: the literal items. (still have some stored away...somewhere.) also: "grunge" fairy style from that era... look up Amy Brown, Brian Froud and Stephanie Pui-mun law. Also a 2000's "Modern Moroccan" style.
@DressMeUpScotty14 күн бұрын
I love those fairies - I noted Amy Brown but I will look up the others. I have probably seen them but it’s good to know the actual artist names. I used to always admire the fairy and dragon statues as well as the art prints in one of the shops that was local to me but never bought them. I’ve been able to thrift some in recent years and I’m so excited about that!

I don't know that I would like this style in its more intense, undiluted version in my own house, but I do really really like seeing it if that makes sense ? It looks cozy and there are some elements that I love, such as velvet couches (oh, to own a green or plum one...), stars and coloured glass lanterns and candle holders/bottles. I do love the dark jewel tones. This video makes me realize that my mom also likes some of these things too, although not all together. We have some sun mirrors and coloured glassware.
@EllisFern14 күн бұрын
I love these videos, thank you! My style is more...dark cottagecore/goblincore? I think? Less fantasy and fairies, more forest animals and moody woodland vibes. But there's so much crossover and other similar themes that work with many different aesthetics, that I love seeing videos like this to learn more and get some new ideas. My decor colors are moss green, rusty burnt orange, chocolate brown, and teal. I'm a huge animal lover and can't resist decor that features deer, foxes, bunnies, owls, frogs, toads, birds, skunks, possums, raccoons - all the adorable forest friends. 🥰 And I just thrifted the prettiest gold, star-shaped basket today for $1.49. Now I'm extra happy that I picked it up after seeing all the celestial inspo in your video. 🥹🫶🏻

Awww yay! I hope you do it! Don’t be discouraged if you feel awkward at first. It will be awkward for a while until you get used to it (and it’s not as smooth as it looks until you edit even years later LOL) but trust me, you do get used to it, at least more used to it. Take it from a 33 year old with a touch of the tism and a whole lot of ADHD 😂 What is really cool is, when you get in the zone about a hyper focus and info dump on the camera and all the feelings of uncomfortableness melt away, even for a moment. Those are the best moments and they translate so well on screen and are like a beacon to like minded souls. After a while, that will be more the norm and you’ll find your authentic self showing up more effortlessly.
@nonannaneiti14 күн бұрын
@DressMeUpScotty That was encouraging, thanks! ❤️Yeah.. The most stressful thing about performing is the reception of other people😅 "Do they like you? Will there be awkward pauses?" overthinking is my friend and also because i have always heard I'm weird or cringe. But also many have said I would be great KZbinr (but these thing are first things u forget.. Compliments xD)

I have an entire collection of Fairy Glen figurines in my office. They make really nice stuff. I kinda did the dark wood furniture & dark Victorian colors & brass accents. I love the aesthetic but living in very modern (ranch) houses it didn't quite work. I'm a little more Boho now with lighter colors, India prints, natural warm woods, Mucha prints & iridescent glass accebts but still have some of my antique furniture too. Ecclectic I guess. We're renting again & the house is a white box so It would be difficult to do all that layering & wall art. (Our art is mostly framed animation cels & special edition limited printings' posters & fine art printed on canvas) I did the Waterehouse thing back when our bedroom was dark green & burgundy & rust. I framed a calender I had of Pre Raphaelite art & it was definitely a vibe in our bedroom. I even hung drapes over the bed & custom made a padded headboard out of a thrifted headboard frame, Still have the unicorn tapestries & my Windstone unicorns but it's all in storage now. Too many pretties, not enough room 😢 I love your decor, it's very well done & very you ❤ If only we could live in an old Victorian or Tudor house. Still my dream but not looking likely at this point. Take care & enjoy Colorado!

This was so helpful! My style has been going through some changes, and it is for sure leaning into whimsigoth. I found a tons of Halloween decor from TJMaxx and Target in the past few years that fit in this aesthetic really well. But honestly I have found so much more thrifting or, and I feel a little weird saying this, but from deceased relatives. I treasure these things more, too, since they also have good memories and history behind them!
@DressMeUpScotty14 күн бұрын
So many stores this past Halloween had banger decor! There was a moon mirror at Michael’s that was top tier. It sold out of course lol. But yes so much cool gothic stuff! But also I agree, not weird at all, inherited items from relatives are also great. The items themselves can be really cool depending on their taste and then the memories. I inherited some things from my grand parents and they’re my most prized possessions and they fit well into my decor. I’ll have to do a video after we move into our house and see able to get things out of storage to show off my inherited treasures!

this is by no means a dig, and if it's already been addressed in other comments elsewhere please feel free to redirect me there, but I just have a little confusion as to what the difference is between whimsigoth and dark academia? they seem very similar, or to have at least a LOT of overlap.
@DressMeUpScotty13 күн бұрын
Yeah and that is kind of what I covered in the beginning, that Whimsigoth overlaps with a lot of different aesthetics including dark academia. However in general whimsigoth is more colorful in nature (mixing colors like purples, burgundies and greens all together with some lighter complementary colors) but dark academia tends to be more focused on browns, sometimes greens or one other complementary color but mostly browns, creams, tans. The overlap is probably the darker elements and the ornate antique details but whimsigoth also embraces more of the magical and witchy (although if you’re thinking of Harry Potter which is very dark academia that overlap is there as well). Also the celestial elements are definitely more Whimsigoth. You don’t really see those (suns moons stars especially the 90’s illustrative elements) in dark academia. Dark academia also tends to not be as bohemian whereas whimsigoth is more bohemian/hippie.

also for the DIY peoples, dollar tree DIYs of farmhouse decor but use a darker color scheme. The shape and distressing elements of farmhouse have helped me DIY some nice things over the years.
