I think it’s because Drew has incentives in his contract and maybe they got cheap and didn’t want to pay if he would earn some of those incentives they would have had to pay

Giants actually overpaid what they though it would cost to get Drew. On Hard Knocks, they picked Drew because they though he would cost the least of all the available backups. They excepted Tyrod to get 8M so he wasn't an option. They expected to get Drew for around 3M. He ended up costing 5 with 3M more in incentives which would put him at 8M they didn't want to pay Tyrod for budget reasons......starter QB already at 40+ with DJ. That's a lot of money in your budget allocated to a bunch of backups.

I think at most he’d have been in line to make another 250 grand. The 3 million in incentives were based on him potentially starting a majority of the games. Not really about $…it’s throwing a certain subset of fans a bone.

The Giants' management of their QBs continues to be a disaster. They gave Jones way too much money, they take advantage of DeVito and pay him too little, and Lock too much is based on incentives so they are reluctant to use him. This is just the snowball effect of trading up to get Jones in the first place, they just assumed he'd be a great QB before he was even on the team and they refused to accept otherwise, so they gave him a superstar contract after only one season of better-than-crappy results. I don't blame any of these QBs for the positions they're in now. This is all the fault of Mara, Schoen, and Daboll. They are the reason this team can't get better.

The players should be upset with themselves. The coaching staff wouldn’t be making changes if they were 8-2, 7-3 or even 4-6. Inaccurate throws, dropped passes,procedural penalties, missed tackles, poor blocking, missed field goals, etc. I have respect for Jones, Drew and Tommy. I hope this team plays angry down the stretch.

@ it’s a move to sell tickets. The Giants know Lock is a more than capable back up. He has more starting experience, more talent and more pedigree than Tommy will ever have. Hence his 5 million dollar salary and his status as the number 2 the entire season. DeVito is from North Jersey and Giants fans will come to see him, that’s the only reason he’s starting.

Even if he has, Drew should still get the look first. This was part of his contract and this is what he’s been promised. Why sign him in the first place then?
