Drew, while sailing across the Indian Ocean in 1995 I got thrown overboard into the ocean and fishermen found me floating in the mid sea and saved my life to the Comoros Island of Anjouan. At dinner with the deputy governor on the big island, Moroni, and feeling overwhelming gratitude for saving my life I made a promise to them that I will name my first child after the Island of Comoros. His wife said to name her Anjouan, since that is the Island I was saved to. My 15 year old daughter's name is Anjouan. My love for the (my) people of the Comoros is beyond imagination. I will give my life for my people of The Comoros any second without a thought.

About Djibouti: you must have visited in the midst of something unusual because it's not heavily guarded like this. Also, I'm not sure whether you had a guide because unfortunately you must have seen only the poor side of Djibouti. Djibouti has a massive gap between the rich and the poor, probably unlike you've ever seen. The rich live in absolute luxury while the poor live in outright poverty. The middle class almost non-existant. A ton of countries have an army base in Djibouti which explains in part why it's so expensive, namely the US which occupies a large part...Djibouti is a blatant example of modern day colonialism.

@patriciaalghali25123 жыл бұрын
I am familiar with all three countries. While living in the UAE, I taught several students from Comoros and Dijbouti. While visiting New Zealand, I discovered Tuvalu. Furthermore, I love geography, learning about unfamiliar countries.
@TagusMan2 жыл бұрын
Heard of all three, but didn't know where Djibouti was located. Must be full of spies. Only recently discovered where Comoros was located, thanks to their football team making news in the African Cup of Nations. Cool vid.

3:58 “It’s the 170th smallest country in the world.” By your count-197 countries total-wouldn’t it be the 27th smallest country in the world? (The country with the lowest population is the 1st smallest country in the world, not the 197th.)

On another note, Im a teacher and asked my high school students to point to me Britain on the world map. One student eagerly got up and pointed to Brazil. *face palm* and absolutely ridiculous and sad.

Thank you very much Drew for the video. I know the countries you mentioned and their locations. About 25 years ago, a close friend and her husband spent their honey moon in Comoros, so that's how I heard of Comoros. And the other way I learned about these countries is through studying world maps and regions of the world, as watching global events like the Olympics in which you see many countries being represented and also through reading different types of books.

4:30 "The white one is for the island of Mayotte" is a controversial thing to say, because Mayotte actually belongs to France (yes look it up), because when Comoros was getting independence Mayotte decided that it wanted to stay French, but Comoros never recognized their wishes and claims the island to this day.
