I am a Vietnamese but still find that part to be funny, yet quite annoying of what you guys are wrongly thinking about us. The name “Vietnam” came from “Namviet” or “Nanyue” which means “the southern tribe of the region below China” is an ancient name just before being annexed by the Han empire. It got changed to Vietnam by the Qing in 1804 for some reasons with territorial disputes and that is the real meaning of the name.
