I left Colorado and made the 20 hour drive to Idaho where I plan to spend the next 3 weeks exploring in part 20 of the 2-month truck bed camping road trip. After two days of driving, I finally arrive to the area I planned to spend the next week camping and fishing but see a sign warning of a forest fire in the area I was headed. The first couple days had me second guessing my decision to leave Colorado. It was definitely an adventure I'll never forget. But on the plus side I think I MIGHT have caught some redband trout which I hadn't planned on targeting.
I'm living in my truck bed camper for 2 months and road tripping through New Mexico, Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming. See the entire series on my channel or other parts below....
Check out the flies I used on this 2 month trip:

That was definitely a redband trout around 10:20 - I catch them whenever visiting family in Oregon, so know the patterns well. Such a gorgeous, hard-fighting fish. Great video as always!

Crazy I didn't recognize it at first. I had read a book from Chris Hunt and he mentions them but I didn't do any research on them until I was editing the video and what I thought was a small parred up bow didn't look right. Was cool to catch a few even if I wasn't aware lol!

Graduated from Emmett.There are ample streams,many have an abundance trout,that run six to eight inches,mostly because over population,but there are some that are amazing fisheries.Of course Silver creek has been well published ,fortunately there are others not so well known all named notellem by the locals.

I don't do summer in the West, I generally will go after Labor Day and plan on being back where I live in CT for rifle Deer Season. Mostly for me, it's about crowds and summer prices. Two or three weeks in Peak Season July and Aug are equal to 3 months after labor day expense-wise. 90 days worth of fishing and wandering around is a better deal than 14 to 21 days!
@LooknFishy
@LooknFishy 3 жыл бұрын
Yea, I there was definitely some traffic and hotels were stupid...I talk about that some in one of the vids. But I probably only saw 6 people on the water in 20 days! I do want to head out west for a fall trip but I'm not sure I could give up summer dry fly action!

Drew a couple of questions. Polarized Sunglasses are a must for trout fishing. Many I have seen are really expensive. Any recommendations about sunglasses and are they worth the cost. Also, now about fishing licenses in the many states you have visited. Do you buy visitors licenses? I visit South Dakota from time to time and the out of state license there has gotten to be expensive, but I feel they are a necessity and at least it helps the habitat.
@LooknFishy
@LooknFishy 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure any are worth the price but I've tried several cheap polarized and never found any that are as good as my costa's (smith probably just as good but haven't tried). The biggest things I look for...not fogging and all day comfort. Nearly all the cheap/affordable ones fog when I use them in the salt redfishing in louisiana. Several became uncomfortable after 5 hrs of wearing. The costa's I have now, I've owned for over 5 yrs and the pair before that the same. I've run 9 marathons, several half marathons and several 5 and 10k's in them and avg 25/30 miles per week running in them also.
