Drew, I am a fly fisherman from the mountains of Ecuador South America. I heard many years ago in Colorado (where I learned to fly fish and fly tie) that trout only live in beautiful places. I found that to be true, and you are sharing with us many of those beautiful places where you fly fish for trout. Thank you for that! Those streams look like the ones in the mountains of Ecuador. As usual a superlative demonstration of small river fishing. Thank you. I am curious. I fish a river in No Cal that has similar fast sections with lots of pocket water. I find the euro nymph technique to be particularly effective. Have you tried that yet? New equipment for sure but oh so good.
@LooknFishy3 жыл бұрын
Never, but keep in mind I'm 26+ hours from home. Not really interested in learning a new technique on the road and my local water is tailwaters where the indi rig is great b/c of the constant changing of flows. I'd probably learn it if the right water were closer. Heard it was effective. But the indi rig never disappoints no matter the water or area! Although, I was fishing a dry/dropper in this video.

I always have a hard time mending line and keeping the fly looking natural and not pulling on it. Any tips to not do that?
@LooknFishy3 жыл бұрын
Make sure you're lifting up and then adjusting the line. A good fly line helps...one that isn't too heavy and lifts off the surface easily...I like textured lines...the golf ball like surface stays high on the water for easy mending and shooting. Last, a good medium action rod helps a ton. Something with some flex in the tip will allow minimum effort to mend...the rod does the work. Stiff rods require a some force to flex which usually means lots of power needed to mend and results in moving the indicator or dry.

@@LooknFishy Nah but I can tell the general part of the state by the cedars, those don't grow in the southern part of the state. If you're in the cedars you should be catching cutthroat. They live together.
@trick583 жыл бұрын
Another beautiful piece of this gorgeous state. Thanks. Since you show us the action, I have no sense of whether you feel a need to test a pool before going back in. In our good streams, it’s best to rest a pool 5 minutes every 2 fish to keep hooking big fatties. Did you do any of that? Your fish size stays consistent - and they are cutts, but I wonder if you might have seen more bull and rainbows by resting?
@LooknFishy3 жыл бұрын
I do rest the holes while I change depth on my dropper, etc. But since I'm usually just there for one trip, I try to see as much of the stream as possible to get an idea of what it holds. I'll usually fish the best spots again on the way out.
